This B&H Kit pairs a BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod and an Advanced Travel Backpack, both from Manfrotto. This combination is ideal for the traveling photographer, as the tripod is compact and lightweight, and the backpack can safely transport your camera gear and tripod.

The BeFree extends to 56.7", supports 8.8 lb, and folds to 15.75". The tripod's legs can be spread independently, with two-position leg angle stops. The legs fold up and around the ball head, a feature that helps makes this tripod so compact. The built-in ball head has a large ergonomic locking handle with an included QR plate that has a 1/4"-20 mounting screw and a durable carrying case for storage and transport.

The backpack holds a DSLR with an attached lens, two additional lenses, a flash and accessories, all inside a modular main compartment. A dedicated rear pocket holds up to a 13" laptop, and an expandable side pocket holds the included tripod. For accessories, there is a spacious top storage area and multiple exterior and interior storage pockets.

BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod with Advanced Travel Backpack Kit is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid and light, Manfrotto quality I was looking for a lightweight tripod for travel use and this little unit it what I was looking for. I am certain it will give me many years of troublefree service. I shoot with a Nikon D7100 with a Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens and often a grip extender. This tripod has no problem holding the rig. While it's not as stable as my big aluminum Manfrotto tripod it is more than adequate for travel and hiking and still stable enough for telephoto and long exposures with ND filters. I've got a Manfrotto carbon graphite mono-pod and the leg is a bit wobbly; this unit's legs are very rigid by comparison. I opted to purchase tripod and backpack bundle. The Travel Backpack is lists for about 3x the additional costs and it is well worth the price. The size is perfect for travel and day trips. It has lots of configurable panels and zipper pockets (check out the Manfrotto website for a video tour). Perhaps the nicest feature is the expanding side for a tripod that reveals the bright red pocket walls when expanded. Again, it has the Manfrotto construction quality I've come to expect. Back to the tripod. The build quality is very good all the features are easy to use. Because it is a travel rig everything seems minimal but adequate for the task. The ball head has a single lock nob which is fine but it locks all degrees at the same time so setup up to take a series of panorama shots will not be as easy as it would with a dual locking system. The camera lock plate release mechanism is different from other Manfrotto units. It requires a dual action but the safety lock requires you to push down while twisting. This will take a bit of practice to do without thinking about it. It is compatible with the other Manfrotto base plates I have. The base plate supplied with this system is lighter (some type of plastic or resin I think) and it has a nifty red Manfrotto logo on the lock screw. With my larger, heavier tripod the legs will drop into position with gravity, not so on this unit because they are so light. When I first used the leg angle set thumb locks they felt so light an easy to move that I was concerned they might be plastic but after closer inspection I think they are some type of alloy. The locks only allow three positions: normal, extra wide open, and closed for stowage. The standard Manfrotto tripods allow a large number of stop angles. For travel this is probably not an important limitation. I was a bit concerned about the maximum height but it seems almost perfect for me at 5'9. I read one review on this tripod that said a screw came loose. I checked all of the screws on mine and they were all properly tightened. I did slightly loosen one of the leg pivot tension screws which seems tighter than the others. If I have one complaint about this unit it is that the screws all all star drive. They do provide a small tool but if you carry the tool in the supplied carry case (also very nice) it will invariably fall out and not be there when you do need it. So, Manfrotto, please add at least one small zipper pocket on the carry case for the tool and other little accessories. I doubt I'll rarely need the tool but when I do I am sure I won't be able to find it. I suspect this will be the tripod I grab most of the time and my heavy system will be relegated to special shooting activities where carrying it isn't an issue.
