    Sony BDP-S6500 Reviews

    BDP-S6500 3D Streaming Blu-ray Player with Near-4K Upscaling is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent Blu-ray player, a little finicky I received the player and out of the box it would not connect to the ethernet. I tried changing the switch, the patch cord at the patch pannel, the patch cord at the unit and it still would not connect. I ended up connecting it via Wi-Fi and that worked. I was getting ready to put it back in the box but then it updated. After the update I tried the wired network and SURPRISE, it worked. Picture wise, the quality is good, the sound is good too, the sound is definitely lower than my previous unit by about 6dB. The interface is easy to use and speedy enough to use and not get impatient. If you're looking for a speedy unit at a good price, this one qualifies. B&H has been quick to ship it too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony Blu Rays Are The Best for Playing Blu Rays I've tried other blu ray players but I keep going back to Sony. I've had two samsung blu rays in the past and they would never play properly. I have very little to no issues with my sonys. I have three sony blu ray players right now. I also love the usb port in the front. I'll load up my mkvs and mp4s on a flashdrive, the player plays them without a blink. There are better streaming options out there like roku and chromecast but for actually playing blu rays, I always go with Sony!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first BluRay player and I'm impressed So far we have used this player to watch BluRay DVD and non Blu Ray discs and we have used a couple of the included internet apps like Pandora. The picture quality on the Sony 65 TV is outstanding. We have only been using the player for 3 weeks but are happy so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony BDP-S6500 Small, easy to connect and connect to home network. Fantastic image quality on both Blu-Ray and streaming content (much more clear than my previous Samsung). Upscaling of regular DVD's is not as pronounced as I imagined it would be, but not a big issue as most all rentals/purchases are Blu-Ray these days. I was initially concerned about the relatively small size of the unit (small unit = poor quality), however, the performance thus far has dismissed all those fears. Actually, the size has proven to be a benefit. About the only negative I can think of is the size of the remote. With little ones around the house, I am fairly confident the credit card sized remote will someday disappear.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good I bought an equivalent Samsung blu-ray first. It wouldn't play because of disc errors on the first 3 discs I played. So i bought the Sony and its been flawless. I just wisht the buttons were more visible so it could be seen inside a cabinet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Upscaling is excellent I bought this machine to play my large library of DVDs when my old unit quit working. I don't plan on buying a lot of new Blue-ray discs but have a lot of Disney titles that my grandchildren like to watch. I have been quite disappointed in the past with the picture quality when I played my DVDs on my old player. I was actually shocked at how good the old DVD's looked when played on this unit. The quality is really close to HD and way better than I expected. If you have an old library of DVDs and want better picture quality when you play them this is a good unit to consider.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Price, Limited Web Browsing I was really excited with the prospect of ditching my Chromecast + laptop, in favor of using the BDP-S6500. Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to do that entirely. Netflix and some websites do work. However, those that require Adobe Flash are not supported, like network TV sites. I'd like for Sony to give it a software update to cure this shortcoming. The picture is great, as is the price. With the above caveat, I can only conditionally recommend it.
