Panasonic Lumix G 42.5mm f/1.7 Reviews

Tiny Lens, Great Photos!

I was very surprised when this lens arrived in the mail. It was so small! I thought to myself, surely this isn't the right lens. Don't get me wrong, the reason I love the Micro 4/3's system is because it's small, but even still, this lens on my LUMIX GX8 feels so small. And I love it! Portability is amazing for this little guy. Auto-focus is lightening fast. And the focus ring for manual focus is smooth as butter. This is a great lens to add to your collection. 100% recommended!

One of my favorite new lenses

I'm fairly new to the world of prosumer cameras. I started my videography/photography journey with an iPhone. Last year, I made the switch to the GH6 and I recently bought this lens for a client shoot. First of all, I love how compact this thing is. It fits in the palm of my hand (no joke). It is incredibly sharp and I love the look of the f1.7 aperture. I still have a lot to learn on this journey, but I think this lens is going to make it fun!

It's an OK zoom lens.

It's an OK zoom lens. I would prefer something with a lower apeture.

Small, light, fast focus, close focusing, Sharp. Comes with lens hood, case. Nice control over depth of field. Cons? Perhaps the tiny 37mm filters needed. Nothing a step up ring won't fix. Need a portrait lens for m4/3? Get this lens.

Powerful, Yet Tiny

I was so astonished when I unpackaged this lens as to how small it was. Even though I was well aware that this is for a Micro 4/3 camera body, I was still surprised. That being said, this little guy is a work horse!!! I have been using this on my LUMIX DMC GX-8 and it's been wonderful. Having essentially an 80mm in such a small package is so liberating and portable. I love the Micro 4/3 system because it is so small. This 42.5mm is even smaller than my 12-35mm Kit lens (which I also love). The auto focus works lighting fast with the lenses, and the bokeh I'm getting is just *chef's kiss". I bought this lens used from B&H to save a few extra dollars, but I can say with confidence that this little guy is 100% worth the full price.

Realizes the Promise of Micro 4/3rds

We like Micro 4/3rds because the lenses are typically smaller for the same field of view as full frame. This lens is the 4/3rds equivalent of an 85 mm portrait lenses for full frame. But this lens much smaller and lighter than any 85 mm FF lens It looks great on a Lumix GM5! I can hang it around my neck all day long without fatigue. And with image stabilization built into the lens, it makes up for the lack of focal plane stabilization in the GM5. And what a performer! My test shot was wide open, F/1.7 and I can't see any lateral color in the crop in this glinty high contrast image, just a tiny smidge at the pixel level. And what a price too! I would love to see Lumix make a prime lens like this for 75 or 100 mm. A 100 mm F/4 prime with OIS for GM5? I would buy that. Now if only Lumix would make their Micro 4/3rds cameras smaller too. I love the G9, but it's the same size or larger than most full frame cameras.
