Panasonic Lumix G 42.5mm f/1.7 Overview

A standard portrait-length prime, the Lumix G 42.5mm f/1.7 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. from Panasonic is an 85mm-equivalent lens designed for the Micro Four Thirds system of mirrorless cameras. One aspherical element is incorporated within the optical design, which helps to control spherical aberrations and distortions for enhanced sharpness and accurate rendering. Panasonic Lumix G 42.5mm f/1.7 Reviews

So small I might loose it!

I've made 90% of my paying images in the past 25 years with either the Nikkor 105 1.8, the Zeiss Batis 85mm 1.8. Looks like this is my new best friend.

I thought I would I would play it cheap. I bought the Samyung 42.5mm MFT lens and while the Samyung functioned as it promised, I thought it was loud when focusing and hunted for focus more than I wished it would. For less than $90 it is a bargain hunters dream in my opinion. As my goal is to establish a business & professionalism I am glad I stepped up to the Panasonic lens. If you can only afford the Samyung, do it I don't think you will be disappointed. I am very happy with my upgrade.

One of the best lenses in the Lumix lineup

I've had this lens for a few years now. It may look like a toy but this is a powerful tool for any MFT shooter. This lens is fast, sharp! With a minimum focusing distance of 12 you can get some really intimate shots. I mainly use this lens for video when I need something that works with focus tracking. Soooo yeah... it's plastic, and I wouldn't drop it, or get it wet. But this is still one of the best native Lumix lenses for the price.

As sharp and contrasty as the Olympus 45/1.8

Excellent lens! sharp and contrasty, ultrafast focus, smooth focusing ring, small, light and with a very pleasing modern clean design. It feels high quality, the fact that it's made in Japan probably add to that feeling, I suppose. Very similar optical performance to the well know Olympus 45mm/f1.8, but with significantly closer focusing distance, and of course the great addition of IS. Only thing I would change is the front threads diameter so it would fit a 46mm cap; with the current 37mm it looks a bit strange and protruding, just an aesthetic thing. Using a simple step up ring 37mm--46mm fixes it easily, and it just looks better. It's of course also practical, if your other lens/s have 46mm diameter you can now just carry extra caps/filters with one diameter.

question

If I buy a step up ring for this lens (37mm to 46mm), will I still be able to use the lens hood? Or would a step up ring block the thread from being able to mount on the hood?

I’ve heard this lens had stabilization issues ...

I’ve heard this lens had stabilization issues when mounted to the original BMPCC (micro jitters, IS turning off & on, etc). Is this the same case with the BMPCC4K?
