Steiner Optics designed their gray-armored 10x42 P1042 Binocular to blend into urban environments for patrol duty, tactical operations, and surveillance professionals who require lightweight and compact observation tools that don't sacrifice performance for size and can withstand the rigors of daily use. The P1042 is a small full-sized optic that has enhanced light gathering capabilities over compact binoculars, but its 42mm objectives won't interfere with mobility due to excessive size or weight. It utilizes compact roof prisms to reduce the form factor and fully multicoated the glass elements with the proprietary High Contrast Optics coatings. These coatings increase light transmission, reduce light loss for improved low-light performance, and enhance color fidelity and image contrast. A wide 62.5 apparent field of view, combined with the optical performance, produces a comfortable and immersive viewing experience. Complementing the optics is the Fast-Close-Focus system that allows users to focus from the 6' minimum distance to infinity in one turn so they can more quickly and easily react to changing circumstances without losing valuable time.
To withstand the rigors of constant use, the binocular's housing is made of impact and corrosion-resistant Makrolon polycarbonate. This material is also temperature-resistant to reduce expansion and contraction caused by wide temperature swings, which can cause the optical components to move out of collimation over time, preventing the ability to achieve crisp focus and sharp images. The housing is covered with gray NBR-Longlife rubber armoring which allows the binocular to blend into urban environments, provides a soft feel in the hand yet offers protection against oil, acid, and saltwater while giving it a slip-resistant grip. To make it a truly rugged outdoor optic, the housing is nitrogen filled for fogproof performance and O-ring sealed to make it fully waterproof.
