The compact and versatile Bresser MC-100 Messier 4" f/14 Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope is ideally suited for observing near and deep-sky objects from the Moon to nebulae, and as a powerful terrestrial spotting scope. Its Maksutov-Cassegrain optical path produces a long focal length inside a short optical tube for high magnification potential without taking up a lot of room. It features magnesium fluoride (MgF2) anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics that, coupled with its corrector plate, virtually eliminates chromatic aberration for images with true color rendition across the entire field of view without halos.
This optical tube assembly (OTA) comes equipped with a 1.25" eyepiece holder and a 26mm super Plossl eyepiece that yields a 54x power. A 90° star diagonal is included to offer a more comfortable viewing position, especially when using it for terrestrial viewing, or when the OTA is pointed at or near the celestial zenith. Instead of a traditional finderscope, Bresser includes a red-dot finder which enables simple and fast find-and-point observation for land and sky viewing where the objects can be seen with the naked eye.
The scope features an integrated 1/4"-20 tripod mount for conventional tripods when using it as a spotting scope and for astronomical use comes equipped with the Exos-1 manual equatorial mount that features dual-axis slow motion cables to more easily track objects, and an integrated bubble level to assist in set-up. Built into the mount is an access port for an optional polar alignment scope to aid in faster and more precise set up. This tripod, a step-up from typical "starter" tripods, is adjustable from 25 to 42" to accommodate a wide range of users. Its 1.5" leg diameter has three sections with large thumbscrews for tool-free adjustment in the field.
