Pyle Pro PSIP24 Reviews

Great idea - middling execution - low quality stand

Bought this for my apartment to help with acoustics and sound leakage into my neighbor's apartment. It helps but it's not a sound barrier by any stretch of the imagination. As others have noted, low notes go right thru. It's most effective for human voice and would help anyone who is doing on-line meetings in an echo plagued room. Just place off to the side. It's really useful because you can move it around easily to get the best effect. Other sound absorption options, sound blankets for example, are tough to put up and adjust.  My main complaint is the build quality of the stand which is mostly plastic. I also would like it to be more convenient to collapse, roll up and put away. But right now no-one else is making a light weight yet effective acoustic panel like this so if you need one now, get it.

OK high freq, does little for low, unless covered

One illustration shows a female guitar/vocal setup in a very large space....by far the most ideal usage... at lower male tones and/or smaller rooms (10x12 ft, 12x15, etc), it will not stop boxy resonances. I was able to use it with an angled 8-layer total fleece fold-up and it broke up some resonance. I'm doing voiceovers so the booth is more critical.. It's just solid enough to hang some extra midrange attenuation on. For a true damped booth I have to hang folded comforters/sleeping bags 1 ft off the wall. So...I was able to use this, but if they sold a more rugged hanger it would be more economically efficient. Still, didn't waste much $ finding out things.

Good for quick placement for voice recording and midrange acoustic instruments - design needs work

I wish this was a better item but it has it’s uses. It’s easy to move around compared to most sound absorbers and it’s very good for vocal ranges so it can be used to reduce room tone or isolate the performer from other performers. Apartment/home recording studios might find this a useful plus versus other low-priced sound absorbers like moving blankets. The overall build is cheap feeling and the design needs some work. The metal clamps for the acoustic foam are significantly heavier than the plastic stand but it’s stabile when assembled. You might want to sandbag it to prevent the upper clamp from clonking anyone if it gets knocked over. Unfortunately the item is not easy to disassemble to store. You have to take the stand partially apart to roll up the foam and collapse the stand which is how I would like to store it. There are complaints about the price (and yes I think it’s slightly overpriced also) but I did a little research and found that to build your own sound absorber like this with existing production gear would cost quite a bit more. Yes, the equipment would be higher quality overall but between the increased weight and inconvenience, this Pyle Pro is a very good deal.

doesn't absorb all sound, but can support extra matl

Below 1KHz, absorption is minimal: beware. Sturdy enough to support a few lbs. of folded fleece blanket, however, and extremely easy to pick-n-place. Good for higher freq. inner wall in a jiffy (like back/corner of thicker corner booth). For low/bass/small-room, hanging folded comforters/sleeping bags is needed. I made good use of it, but it cannot do everything.
