Medium-length telephoto prime is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 288mm equivalent focal length.
Ideal for macro shooting, this lens offers a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification along with a minimum focusing distance of 1.6' to suit working with close-up subjects.
Three ultra-low dispersion (UD) elements greatly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.
A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM) is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.
Floating elements system along with an internal focusing design helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the focusing range.
Focus Limiter switch lets you constrain the focusing to two different ranges for faster focusing performance: 1.6'-infinity and 4.9'-infinity.
Rounded eight-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.
As a member of the esteemed L-series, this lens is sealed against dust and moisture for working in inclement environmental conditions.
Removable rotating tripod collar is included and benefits working with the lens atop a tripod or monopod.
Compatible with optional EF 1.4X and EF 2X teleconverters.

Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM Reviews

Great Glass from Canon

Purchased this lens as a compliment to my 100mm Canon Macro. Very pleased with the images. Tack sharp. Weight is a factor but I shoot mostly on a tripod.

Good long macro lens that does what it is advertised to do.

This is a good lens to capture flowers and insects while staying far enough away to not interrupt your behavior. I tried using it on a sunset in a wild area and there was more lens flare than other lenses I own.

Nice lens, but one nitpick

I have the 100 f2.5L IS and the MP-E 65 Canon macro lenses and their MT-26EX-RT Macro Twin Lite. This lens meets my expectations, I would like autofocus to be faster and it would benefit from image stabilization, but I knew that going in. Optically excellent and allows me enough distance from flighty bugs to obtain images I could not with my 100mm. My nitpick is this, Canon's top of the line macro flash won't fit on this lens and the 100mm without an adaptor, and a different adaptor is needed for each lens. It fits the MP-E 65 without an adaptor. IMO the correct adaptor should be included with the lens, would cost an extra $35 but in the grand scheme of things not significant. At the very least, when one chooses the lens B&H should have a little popup that says, Hey, in case you were planning to use this top of the line Canon macro lens with Canon's top of the line macro flash you will need this adaptor (not included) Canon 72C Macrolite Adapter. And while I'm on the nitpick subject when that little window pops up it should add, And if you use this adapter you will need a (not included) 58mm lens cap. That would prevent one from ordering and receiving the lens, then ordering and receiving the adaptor, only to find one must then order the 58mm lens cap. Don't ask me how I know. :) Very happy with the lens.

Truly Excellent Lens

Only macro lens for me so not sure I can give an accurate comparison to other lens; however the pictures have been great and, exlant poke, work best from f6.3-f11 works great for me. B&H is always the most trusted name in the business

I purchased this in 2018 upon release. For two years, I have been in love with it. Shooting more days than not, I have tested this thing for 10K+ shots and am constantly stunned at the accuracy and delight of clarity. Shooting insects and flowers in situ, I am constantly amazed with my shots. I include one shot with the long setting and one with the short. The switch from one to the other is a major problem. Animals in situ flow in and out of focus and the switch is beyond tricky since it is sticky and the animals depart.

Another L glass winner from Canon!

I bought this lens as an alternative to my Canon 100 f/2.8L IS macro for those times that I need some distance between me and my subject, or I cannot get closer. The quality does not disappoint. The images are sharp, contrasty, and have great color. There's no distortion, and CA is very well-controlled. Just what I have come to expect from Canon L glass. The only thing that's missing is IS, but that would add to the weight and cost so I just use a tripod when needed.

Sharp Lens

Excellent build. Working distances are a bit long, especially when trying to photograph directly above or below the subject. Also would have appreciated image stabilization since lens doubles as a telephoto.

How does this lens pair with the Canon MR-14EX Macro Ring Lite Flash given the 55mm 'ring' on the flash. Any significant vignetting or such?

You shouldn't experience vignette using the Canon MR-14EX with the Canon 180mm f/3.5L lens. However, you will need to use the Canon 72C Macrolite Adapter to mount this flash on the lens: http://bhpho.to/1udkYes
