I tried the Sigma 105mm macro and I definitely prefer the Sony 90mm focusing system. I love the Sony 90mm macro

Before I traded in with my 50mm macro, I read a lot of reviews and I agree with all. This is the perfect lens I have been looking for as an amateur photographer, and so easy to use.

I traded my Canon 100mm 2.8 for this lens and do not regret it. The 90mm is sharper from the get go. With first use, I noticed that through the viewfinder and looking at shots, much sharper. I have a Sony digital, so adding the macro was a no brainer. The 90mm G OSS is Sony's sharpest lens. Would recommend.

Only one day of shooting with this lens... but so far it is meeting the high expectations set by all the reviews. So easy to get great macro shots with high sharpness and beautiful colors. The feature set (switches, button, clutch for manual focus) seems perfect for macro. And I expect it to work great as a short telephoto.

If you are looking for a medium fixed prime for a Sony full-frame body with macro capabilities, IS and fast autofocus, I highly recommend this one. This is a great lens. Period.

Prior to purchasing this lens, I actually rented it a few times. I've rented this along with the 105mm by Sigma. After comparing the two, they were very similar, but the one thing that got me going for this over the other is the fact that this lens has OSS vs the other which doesn't. This makes it nice to capture fairly stable footage by hand holding for video and even photos.

I held off of buying this lens for a few years because for me it's far too large. The A1 that I use is a nice small, compact and lightweight camera why would you want to put a telescope like this on the front of it? But I finally got tired of my 50mm Sony Macro because of too many focusing issues and I destroyed my Sony 90mm in an accident. So I took the plunge. The focus on this lens is fantastic. I love the switch between manual and auto by pulling back the focusing ring. This is intuitive, fast and doesn't require you to hunt through menus or fiddle with dials. The auto focus is responsive and works flawlessly even at a full burst mode of 24fps. This lens uses the full capabilities of my A1 which the other two lenses certainly did not. For macro work it's much too big and much too heavy. So big it's intrusive, so heavy my tripod starts to slip under the weight. Still it's super sharp, bright and again the quality and ease of focusing defeats any of the other problems so overall it's a winner. I don't regret buying it as I feared I just wish it wasn't so big. I dread taking this lens in a trip with me but it will probably be worth it.

I research lenses pretty heavily before purchasing and saw so many places recommend this lense, as well as test results being fantastic for optics. Because of that, I had previously rented this lens to test it out and was amazed by how clear it is on my A7iii. So, I waited for it to be on sale and bought it! It's awesome for macro, close ups, or portraits. It is ridiculously sharp and the 2.8 gets a nice narrow area for those close ups. Who also doesn't love the built in stabilization? It helps so much! The auto focus works really well when not doing super close up/macro, but that is expected in my opinion and it still does a good job! The slide focus ring to switch from auto to manual focus is also nice as it makes it easy on the fly. You get fine adjustment with the ring when in manual, so you can focus exactly where you want. You can't go wrong with this lens.
