The 21mm Ultra-Wide Conversion Lens for FE 28mm f/2 Lens from Sony broadens the angle-of-view of the 28mm f/2 lens to 92º for an ultra wide focal length equivalence of 21mm when used with full-frame cameras. As this converter lens is uniquely compatible with the FE 28mm f/2 lens, it transmits EXIF data through the host lens to the camera. The optical design of the converter lens is comprised of 4 elements in 4 groups and when on the 28mm lens, it provides a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and a minimum manual focus distance of 7.9". When the lens is used with an APS-C E-Mount camera, the converter lens provides a 68° angle of view and a 31.5mm focal length equivalent. It is a compact addition to the 28mm lens with a bayonet mount and features a built-in petal-type lens hood.

Great Concept w/just one shortcoming

This is a great concept to get a wide angle lens without having to change out a lens and carry around a heavy lens. The combo lens is on the heavy side, but weighs less overall than two separate equivalent lenses. Using the bayonet hood attachment on the 28mm lens is fast and easy. The only down side is not being able to attach a filter.

Works great. Decent wide open but gets better as you stop it down. I mainly used it on my a7sii for wide shots on a gimbal. The fact that i have essentially a 21mm auto focus lens made it worth it.

This thing is awsome, if you think about how much it cost to get a lens in 20mm variant, it makes sense to get this one with the 35mm, you have native fe auto focus, seems to be constructed well, only looses one f stop, I love it

It is a really nice wide 21mm. But I wish I could put a filter on it. It is easy to attach and remove. the lens cap from the 28mm fits inside the body cap of the converter. Neat.

This does a very nice job for a conversion lens. Price is nice and quality is quite good. Even gives correct EXIF data. For not a lot of extra size you get a 28 and a 21mm lens

I am happy with the good sharpness of the 21mm adapter for the Sony 28mm 2.0 lens. The two components were very carefully matched to act as a single lens with lens elements of each half coming close to each other without glass touching glass. I have never tried putting the 21mm on another lens that it was not designed for. If you try it and the threads do match on the 55mm lens, you should take precautions to insure that the front 55mm lens element and rear 21mm adapter elements do not touch. Even if glass elements did not touch I would be surprised if the edge sharpness would be as sharp as it is on the 28mm Sony. Wishing you the best with your experiment!

I've been using the 28mm FE on my A6400 ...

I've been using the 28mm FE on my A6400 camera(aps-c/42mm) , can I attached this to the lens and get a a 30.5mmm focal point?

On the Sony aps-c bodies the 21mm ultra wide conversion lens will give you 31.5mm. I used this combo on both full frame and aps-c bodies and it works great.
