Sony SEL075UWC Overview

  • 1Description

The 21mm Ultra-Wide Conversion Lens for FE 28mm f/2 Lens from Sony broadens the angle-of-view of the 28mm f/2 lens to 92º for an ultra wide focal length equivalence of 21mm when used with full-frame cameras. As this converter lens is uniquely compatible with the FE 28mm f/2 lens, it transmits EXIF data through the host lens to the camera. The optical design of the converter lens is comprised of 4 elements in 4 groups and when on the 28mm lens, it provides a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and a minimum manual focus distance of 7.9". When the lens is used with an APS-C E-Mount camera, the converter lens provides a 68° angle of view and a 31.5mm focal length equivalent. It is a compact addition to the 28mm lens with a bayonet mount and features a built-in petal-type lens hood.

    Sony SEL075UWC Reviews

    21mm Ultra-Wide Conversion Lens for FE 28mm f/2 Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Quality Add-on for FE 28mm Owners I've used my 21mm Ultra-Wide Conversion Lens for a week now and just finished using it for Autumn landscapes this weekend with great results. I'm seeing that there is little to no IQ degradation in using it, and also find that it is much easier to remove this lens from the end of my 28mm FE f/2 than doing complete lens changes. Actually, when I want to switch I simply remove it, keep it in my hand as I take my shot when I want the longer 28mm focal length, then return it to the front of the 28mm for safe keeping as I walk about. This provides a flexibility very near that of a zoom, but really what I'd call a multi-focal length lens combo. The maximum aperture does drop to f/2.8 from f/2 when adding this conversion lens, but I haven't found that an issue, as I still consider that wide, and allows for good low light capabilities. In Lightroom, my RAW images can be adjusted to control distortion by clicking on the lens profile check box, or shoot JPEG and have it controlled automatically. The add-on conversion lens is recognized in the body and through the RAW converter as a 21mm lens and the adjustments to profile work seamlessly. For the cost, this is a highly recommended piece of kit for your Sony full frame and the 28mm FE prime. BTW, check out the quality and sharpness rating for the FE 28mm on DxOMark. It is in the top 5!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Concept w/just one shortcoming This is a great concept to get a wide angle lens without having to change out a lens and carry around a heavy lens. The combo lens is on the heavy side, but weighs less overall than two separate equivalent lenses. Using the bayonet hood attachment on the 28mm lens is fast and easy. The only down side is not being able to attach a filter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from easy to attach It is a really nice wide 21mm. But I wish I could put a filter on it. It is easy to attach and remove. the lens cap from the 28mm fits inside the body cap of the converter. Neat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No brainer This thing is awsome, if you think about how much it cost to get a lens in 20mm variant, it makes sense to get this one with the 35mm, you have native fe auto focus, seems to be constructed well, only looses one f stop, I love it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what its supposed to do! Works great. Decent wide open but gets better as you stop it down. I mainly used it on my a7sii for wide shots on a gimbal. The fact that i have essentially a 21mm auto focus lens made it worth it.

Can it compatible with sony Carl ziees 55mm f1.8 ...

Can it compatible with sony Carl ziees 55mm f1.8 ?
    Asked by: Sok
I am happy with the good sharpness of the 21mm adapter for the Sony 28mm 2.0 lens. The two components were very carefully matched to act as a single lens with lens elements of each half coming close to each other without glass touching glass. I have never tried putting the 21mm on another lens that it was not designed for. If you try it and the threads do match on the 55mm lens, you should take precautions to insure that the front 55mm lens element and rear 21mm adapter elements do not touch. Even if glass elements did not touch I would be surprised if the edge sharpness would be as sharp as it is on the 28mm Sony. Wishing you the best with your experiment!

    question

The Sony 28 F2 has quite a bit of barrel distortion, does this ultra wide converter keep the distortion or correct it to have straight(er) lines?
    Asked by: Nicholas
The short answer is no, the converter does not correct the distortion. However, many Sony cameras are set up to do that via software. The advantage to using this converter (as opposed to a non-Sony lens) is that the camera can detect its presence and apply a specific software solution for the lens/converter combo. Note that this will only work with JPEGs, correcting software will not be applied to RAW images in-camera.
