The 27" iMac Mid-Level HD DaVinci Resolve Turnkey from B&H Photo is a post-production solution for video editors and colorists working with 4K or HD content. The kit pairs a 27" Retina 5K display Apple iMac with Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve Studio software and Tangent Wave control panel. The turnkey also features a 4TB Thunderbolt 2 external storage/editing array, Blackmagic UltraStudio 4K Thunderbolt 2 I/O device, Apple Magic Mouse, and Apple keyboard with numeric keypad. The hardware and software in this bundle have been configured and tested at B&H to ensure that all of the components are working nicely together.

The iMac version featured in this turnkey features a 27" 5K Retina display with a 5120 x 2880 native resolution. It is equipped with a quad-core, 4.0 Ghz 4th-generation Skylake Intel Core i7 processor and has been upgraded to 24GB of RAM. Additionally, it has a 512GB SSD drive for internal storage and a 4GB AMD Radeon M395X graphics card to power the Retina display and offer GPU processing power to DaVinci Resolve and other GPU-accelerated tasks/applications.

A full software license for DaVinci Resolve Studio for Mac is provided, giving access to an industry-standard color grading software with integrating timeline-based editing capabilities. Incorporating node-based image processing, DaVinci Resolve provides color correction, power windows, and effects for nodes that offer a powerful color correction medium as compared to layers. Faster workflows in real-time are offered via the included Tangent Wave control panel, which provides full tactile control, including buttons, trackballs, dials, and knobs.

The Blackmagic Design UltraStudio 4K is a video I/O device that can capture as well as output SDI and HDMI video. It supports a wide range of frame rates and resolutions, all the way up to DCI specification 4K (4096 x 2160) at up to 60 progressive frames per second. It features a rackmountable form factor, is powered using an included power cable, and interfaces to the Mac Pro using a supplied Thunderbolt cable. For simultaneously editing and backing up your high-resolution footage, a 4TB external RAID array is included. Actual storage capacity will differ according to the RAID configuration, which can be setup in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10. Like the UltraStudio 4K, the RAID array connects to the Mac Pro via an included Thunderbolt 2 cable.

    Apple weds high-res 5K visuals into its sleek 5mm thin 27" iMac with Retina 5K Display. With a 5120 x 2880 native resolution, this iMac provides 14.7 million pixels, which is 7 times more than the standard HD display. The Retina 5K display also features a wider color gamut. Using a P3-based color gamut, the Retina 5K display provides a 25% larger color space than standard sRGB displays. And with more available colors, the images will appear more vivid and reveal greater detail.

    The iMac houses a quad-core 6th-gen Skylake 4.0 GHz Intel Core i7 processor with 8GB of 1867 MHz DDR3 RAM. The iMac also has an AMD Radeon R9 M395X graphics card with 4GB of GDDR5 vRAM. For storage, the iMac has 512GB of flash storage.

    Outfitted with 802.11ac Wi-Fi (backwards compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n) for the speediest hook-ups to your home network, this iMac is also configured with Bluetooth 4.0, as well as an SDXC card slot for extra storage, four USB 3.0 ports, two Thunderbolt 2 ports, and a Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45) jack. It also has a Kensington lock slot for added security.

    For ports, the iMac has dual Thunderbolt 2 ports (which also double as Mini DisplayPorts) and four USB 3.0 ports. You'll be able to connect with various compatible components. If you would rather go wireless with your peripherals, you can use Bluetooth 4.0 technology where compatible.

With a 5120 x 2880 resolution, the iMac with Retina 5K display features 14.7 million pixels, which allows for crisp, clear text and support for 4K photos and videos. The IPS panel allows for wider viewing angles so more people can enjoy the Retina 5K display without having to crowd around it.
    6th-Gen Skylake Quad-Core Intel Core Performance
    The iMac houses a quad-core 6th-gen Skylake Intel Core i7 processor. Its quad cores can reach a stock speed of 4.0 GHz. It can also be overclocked up to 4.2 GHz, thanks to Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 technology. The 6th-gen Skylake Intel processor uses low voltage for better energy efficiency while still providing fast performance. Combined with 8GB of 1867 MHz DDR3 RAM, the iMac allows you to multitask quickly and efficiently.
    Impossibly Thin
    The iMac with Retina 5K display maintains its 5mm profile, which is up to 40 percent less volume than the 2011 iMac. Using an advanced welding method called friction-stir welding, Apple was able to join the front and the back of the iMac together directly.
    802.11ac Wi-Fi & Bluetooth 4.0
    With three-stream 802.11ac technology, the iMac takes desktop Wi-Fi speeds over the top. When it's connected to an 802.11ac base station - including AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule (both sold separately) - you can reach data rates of up to 1.3 Gbps. That's triple the previous 802.11n standard, which means you'll get up to three times faster Wi‑Fi. You also get double the channel bandwidth, with 80MHz-wide channels providing more room for more data to flow faster than ever. Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology is also built in, so you can connect accessories such as a wireless keyboard and mouse.

And the iMac with Retina 5K display has Thunderbolt 2, delivering twice the bandwidth - up to 20 Gbps - for fast data transfers. While the Thunderbolt 2 ports double as mini DisplayPorts, the iMac with Retina 5K display cannot be used as a standalone monitor like its predecessor. It can, however, be used simultaneously with an external display and can output up to a 5120 x 2880 resolution.

    DaVinci Resolve Studio, from Blackmagic Design, is a renowned advanced color correction software and now also a full-fledged, non-linear editing system — it even allows to you to import projects from other NLEs, such as from Premiere Pro, as XML files. You can edit, color correct, finish, and deliver all from one system. Moreover, Resolve is highly sophisticated and oriented at the same time toward the individual user, large collaborative teams, and the growing studio owner. It's completely scalable and resolution independent, so it can be used on set, in a small studio, or integrated into large production pipelines.

    Resolve is a node-based color grading system — nodes being similar layers — where each node can have color correction, isolated areas (power windows), and effects, and in which unlimited numbers of nodes can be joined together sequentially or in parallel. In all, you can combine grades, effects, mixers, keys, and plug-ins in any order to create limitless color effects and unique looks. This is the core of Resolve's color grading functionality, and there are hundreds of advanced features and capabilities in addition, such as grading from raw Files, automatic color matching, and 3D tracking.

    The editing functionality in Resolve is designed to handle TV dramas, commercials, multi-camera productions, and all other project types from the smallest to largest. The trimming tool is context sensitive, meaning that based on where you position the mouse cursor on the timeline, Resolve will automatically switch to the trimming function you need, so you can ripple, roll, slip, slide, or extend and shorten your footage without having to manually switch tools. As for collaborative support, Resolve allows multiple people to work together on the same timeline at the same time. This is a major time benefit when each user is assigned a specific task. As with the grading side, the editing side also has hundreds of other features and capabilities.

    Resolve is scalable and supports multiple GPUs all working together. You can use multi-GPU systems such as the Mac Pro or build a dedicated Windows system with up to 3 GPUs. Resolve also features advanced media management tools designed for editorial and color workflows. You can move, copy, consolidate, relink, and archive media, timelines, or entire projects. Resolve's clone tool will back up your valuable camera files on location so you can copy camera files to multiple destinations with checksum validation for safekeeping while you're still on set.

    Resolve is also capable of editing metadata, syncing sound, and prepping footage for editing, grading, or visual effects. Resolve supports almost any format, and also includes powerful delivery options for versioning, finishing, and delivery at any resolution and format, so you can export for various destination types. Resolve works from your camera originals so your finished master is a first generation graded copy of the original camera raw files. Additionally, exporting can take advantage of remote rendering, using another Resolve on the network to render the job.

    All image processing is at 32-bit floating point and Resolve uses a unique YRGB color space for grading. These two features combine to give you a dramatically wider color correction range, and you'll be able to adjust the luminance gain of your video without rebalancing the color of your whites, mids, or blacks.

    Resolve was designed with the ability to integrate with dozens of other applications so that you can focus more on your project. Resolve can share sequences and round trip projects with Final Cut Pro X, Media Composer, Premiere Pro, and other editing, audio, and VFX and motion graphics software. You can edit your project on any system, then link back to your full quality camera raw files using XML, AAF, or EDL and finish in greater bit depth with Resolve. You can also use AAF export to send a project to ProTools with discreet audio clips and a single layer video mix down for audio finishing. Get support for multiple GPUs, 4K output, motion blur effects, temporal and spatial noise reduction, 3D tools, remote and multi-user collaboration tools, and more with DaVinci Resolve Studio.
