For editors looking for a robust mid-level workstation and the ability to capture 3G-SDI, the HP Z640 Rackable Turnkey Workstation with EDIUS Pro 8 and STORM 3G I/O Card offers a solution. It combines a professional rackmountable computer with EDIUS Pro 8 NLE professional editing software, plus the Grass Valley STORM 3G PCI Express Card for capture and playout of SD-, HD-, and 3G-SDI video. All of the hardware and software is pre-installed and tested by B&H technicians.

At the heart of this system is the HP Z640 Rackable Minitower Workstation. This server-grade computer features two 2.1 GHz Intel Xeon E5-2620 v 8-core CPUs backed up by 16GB of RAM. Two additional 8GB RAM modules are included in the kit, bringing the total RAM to 32GB. To provide the GPU acceleration full-quality high-res video playback requires - as well as support the more mundane task of driving your monitors (available separately) - the workstation features the HP Quadro M4000 GPU with 1664 CUDA Cores and 8GB of GDDR5 RAM. A total of 9TB of media storage is provided, spread across three 3TB HDDs configured as RAID 0. In addition, there is a 256GB SSD drive to hold Windows and all of the applications. The advantage of using an SSD for this is faster boot times as well as faster applications launching.

For video capture, editing, and monitoring the Grass Valley STORM 3G PCI Express Card and EDIUS Pro 8 NLE Software are integrated with the turnkey. On the hardware side, the STORM card features 3G-SDI input and output plus has an HDMI output for monitoring on a TV or other consumer grade device. It also features RS-232 for deck control. The EDIUS Pro 8 software, on the other hand, empowers editors with real-time workflows in all supported resolutions. With no rendering, editors can have a non-stop creative process leading to fast editing and an engaging finished product.

    The Z640 Rackable Minitower Workstation from HP delivers powerful performance in a 4U rackable minitower form factor and is designed for professionals who require high reliability. The Z640 is well suited for tasks such as intensive graphics, 3D rendering, and multimedia, as well as science and engineering applications. The system is powered by dual 2.1 GHz Intel Xeon E5-2620 v4 processors armed with eight cores on each CPU, for a total of 16 cores. There is also 20MB of Intel Smart Cache per processor, for a total of 40MB. These processors, cores, and cache will allow you to run multiple applications simultaneously and provide significant performance gains when running multi-threaded tasks. If you need more power, the CPU can deliver extra performance by increasing the clock speed up to 3.0 GHz utilizing Intel's Turbo Boost 2.0 technology.

    The 16GB of 2400 MHz DDR4 ECC registered RAM allows the computer run multiple applications simultaneously and also to quickly access frequently-used files and programs. The current memory configuration is two 8GB modules occupying two of the eight DIMM slots. If you need to upgrade, this system supports up to 16GB per slot when using 2133 MHz ECC registered RAM, 32GB per slot when using 2133 MHz Load Reduced (LR) RAM, or 32GB per slot when using 2400 MHz ECC registered RAM.
