Senal SCM-600 overview

  • 1Description

The Senal SCM-600 is a professional-grade, large-diaphragm, true condenser microphone that's equipped with a 1.3" gold-plated transducer element. The microphone offers a full, rich tone, making it an ideal choice for studio recording, broadcasting, podcasting, or live recording. With an SPL handling of 140 dB, the SCM-600 captures vocals and instruments accurately and with pristine clarity.

The cardioid polar pattern minimizes off-axis noise and reflections, while the on-board -10 dB attenuation pad allows you to achieve optimal signal levels when in front of loud sound sources, such as guitar cabinets or singers. The 110 Hz high-pass filter removes low-frequency noise and rumble caused by room noise, air conditioners, fans, or microphone movement.

The rugged all-metal enclosure provides durability during transport or demanding studio conditions. The included shockmount reduces unwanted vibration that can radiate up through the mic stand. The SCM-600 ships with a protective carry pouch and an aluminum case fitted with high-density foam cutouts.

Large Gold-Plated Diaphragm
The 1.3ʺ transducer element gives detailed and accurate sound that is ideal for a wide variety of broadcast, podcast, or studio applications. Gold plating assures superb conductivity for accurate sound reproduction
Cardioid Polar Pattern
The SCM-600's cardioid polar pattern provides a generous pickup area while minimizing off-axis noise and reflections. It's ideal for recording vocals or voice-overs as well as providing clarity and accuracy when recording guitars, brass, or strings
High-Pass Filter
The 110 Hz high-pass filter rolls off low-frequency noise from air conditioners, fans, and general room noise that can add unwanted rumble to your recording
Attenuation Pad
The selectable -10 dB pad provides additional headroom for capturing louder sound sources such as a guitar cabinet, a singer, brass instruments, or drums without distortion
Shockmount
The included basket-style shockmount minimizes vibrations that can radiate up through the mic stand and adversely affect your recording with preventable mic noise
Extras
A rugged aluminum carry case with high-density foam cutouts cradle and protect the microphone. For extra protection from dust and moisture, a carry pouch is included

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality, great sound and fantastic price It's crazy that such great sound quality comes from a mic under $200 but this SCM-600 delivers. I've been working with an up and coming rapper recently and this mic has been his go to. It has been great for voiceover work as well. The room noise is super minimal so recording podcasts or VO not in a pro studio setting is possible and sounds solid. The case and accessories are a great bonus! It feels super protected in there and the sleeve gives you the option to take it without the case but still feel like it's safe. Overall I'm loving this mic. It's a great addition to my kit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Budget Friendly Bang! You get more than you pay for with the Senal SCM-600. An incredibly budget friendly microphone with enough versatility to handle a both music recording and broadcasting. I've used the SCM-600 for podcasting noting that it has a nice warm tone and minimal bleed through of room noise. I was pleasantly surpised that the microphone came with not only a shock mount but also a carrying pouch and hard case all for less that $125. It's a great mic I would recommend you add it to your collection today!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tested in a real studio; on par with a $500 AKG mic I bought this mic when it was on sale because it's basically insane to find a large-diaphragm condenser mic under $100. My first reaction to the cost and small review count was skepticism because I'm used to "good condenser mic" recommendations being in the $500-$2500 range. I bought the mic anyway, and my first impression of the mic's audio pickup was that even in an untreated room my voice was quite good. Someone at the car wash next door started banging out "booty bass" right in the middle of my tests which easily penetrated the inner walls of my building and the mic picked that up pretty clearly, but that's to be expected with an LDC; the room treatment still makes a big difference, especially for unwanted low frequencies. I do some work with the head of a bluegrass band who has his own brand new studio with lots of high-end equipment and a great ear for audio. When I told him I bought this mic, he suggested we A-B test it against his $500 AKG and his $2500 Neumann. The test results blew him away. The Senal SCM-600 sounds exactly like his $500 AKG mic and he said that it's probably the exact same capsule inside both. There were some minor but obvious differences between this and the Neumann which we had expected from the start. You're never going to find a "$2500 quality" mic for 1/10 the price. Since it sounded identical to the much more pricey AKG mic, I asked him how he felt about the AKG's quality. His response was "I've recorded whole albums with that thing. I'd use it for my pro work any day of the week." He's now nagging me to borrow the mic so he can get other bands that frequent his studio to try it out and be as surprised as he was! By the way, be aware that this mic requires 48V phantom power to work and you can't just plug it into a computer or mixer alone, nor will lower (18V, 24V, etc.) phantom power voltages work properly. On a Zoom H4n you can expect your battery life to be quite short when paired with this beast. Consider an AC adapter, mixer with phantom power, or external phantom power pack if you'll be using a battery-powered audio recorder with it. In short, this is essentially a $500 mic in a package closer to $100 and a perfect choice for anyone who isn't able to (or doesn't want to) afford a $1000+ large-diaphragm condenser. You really can't go wrong with this mic, and the studio monitors don't lie!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from W&B Warm and Buttery. I'm not a audiophile, but when my friend who is popped over to check out my new SCM-600, and thats how he described it. While he sounded great singing into it, I'm going to be primarily using it for voiceover work and podcasting. Love the included shock-mount, and the case is great great for transporting!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this! I am very pleased with the sound quality that I get out of the Senal SCM-600. Especially for the price. It has great clarity through the whole spectrum. It's built well with nice added features like a db switch. It's really easy to just plug in a run with. Makes voice over work a breeze. The case for storage is great too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I love this mic for recording vocals in my home studio. I replaced my AT2020 with this and now the AT2020 sits in my closet. The low db switch on this mic is a bonus. This mic and the right pre amp is amazing.
