Out of the box, camera fit nicely in my hands, easy to operate. Nice feature in all modes. A nice step up from a point and shot camera.

Great Super-zoom for Birding

By Matthew

I got this camera specifically for birding. It's been on my wish list for a couple years now. I've been using it for a couple weeks and I am really impressed with the bird watching mode and the zoom. It's easy to use and the controls are intuitive if you are familiar with camera controls in general. The other modes are fun to play with too. I've played with the star trial mode and night time time-lapse. The aperture and shutter priority, and manual modes are easy to use too. The only negative thing I have is that I'm not sure what Priority mode actually does and how it's different from the Auto mode.

Simply Amazing

I just got my camera a few weeks ago and simply love it. I have always used Minolta but this camera is so easy to use. The zoom is spectacular. I can use it for binoculars. I went for a hike which took us to high hills and took a picture over the valley and across 2 different mountain ranges. Crystal clear picture of even the needles on the pine trees. Then the trail went down to the creek I shot waterfalls and my dog playing in the water all before I got down to the creek . myself . With the zoom. it looked like I was just a few feet from them and the pictures came out crystal clear. There is still small wildflowers along some of the trail and the close up was good but I think my Minolta had a closer range. But these wildflowers were really tiny and I just needed to be a little closer. I'm still learning to use the close up feature so in all fairness to the Nikon, I didn't buy it for just close up. I bought it for wildlife and couldn't be happier. I will still use the close up as it is sharp to a certain distance before it starts to blur, but I also wasn't using a tripod . My bird shots are fantastic . In all, this camera is fun to shoot with and not that heavy. I can finally get great shots of my black dog and see her eyes instead of getting a picture of her as a black blob with no eyes unless I had to go into a photo program to lighten it whole picture to see that she really did have her eyes open. Great camera and so glad I got it thankyou Jill

Excellent zoom

I bought this camera to take photos of birds and other wildlife. The main pro of the camera is the amazing optical zoom. This camera does really well with still objects such as birds perched on a wire. Even with an unsteady hand on maximum zoom I manage to get photos of birds that are in focus. The camera is not great for moving objects. I’m sure I just need practice but it’s not easy to find the object in the camera, especially when the background is busy. All in all, a great camera for someone who doesn’t know much about manual photography and wants decent photos of wildlife that they can share with others and use to identify the animals they see. This camera is not meant for someone who wants professional quality images that they plan on printing and blowing up to a large size.

I was nervous about spending this much money on a website that wasnt the original manufacturer. However since purchasing I am very content with the camera. The only issue is the carrying bag it came with. It comes with shoulder straps and clips and as soon as I tried to attach a clip it broke off, so it is less convenient. However I highly recommend purchasing the deluxe bundle as the UV lens and the spare battery come in handy if you are outside a lot on a sunny day. The camera itself is phenomenal and I am able to take incredible pictures from incredible distances as a beginner

The camera has no built-in memory. You MUST provide a memory card. Did you buy an appropriate memory card and install it? If not, please check the user guide for the memory card requirements and install one. Otherwise, do as the others have mentioned.

Does it shoot like a regular camera if the lens is all the way zoomed out?
The maximum focal length on the lens in this camera is equivalent to 2000mm, so it would give you the same reach as a lens with the same focal length on an interchangeable lens camera.

If set for a 15 second exposure (or anything greater than 1 second) does the ISO default to a set value? I want to be able to use a high ISO and long exposure for aurora photography - as a backup to my Nikon D610 at times.
Asked by: Anonymous
It is possible to set the ISO manually when shooting a long exposure on the P1000.
