Etymotic Research ER20XS-SMF-C overview

  • 1Description

The standard-fit ER20XS High Fidelity Earplugs from Etymotic Research is the next-generation of Etymotic's frost-tipped ETY-Plugs High-Fidelity Earplugs. The earplugs use a tuned resonator and acoustic resistor to replicate the natural response of the ear canal, which combined with Etymotic's proprietary sound path, reduces sound levels evenly across the frequency range without changing the sound quality. They are discreet, and have the identical response of ETY-Plugs through 4kHz. Above 4kHz, the earplugs have high-frequency clarity without compromising protection.

ER20XS earplugs feature a low-profile, stem-less design that sits snugly in the outer ear without protruding. This makes the earplugs comfortable to wear under hats, helmets and other headgear. The earplugs can be used with foam ear-tips with essentially no change in response, and the ear-tips are interchangeable. The ER20XS comes with a small, flexible pull tab that allows for easy removal, an easy-to-install neck cord, and a carrying case.

    Etymotic Research ER20XS-SMF-C reviews

ER20XS High Fidelity Earplugs (Standard Fit, Frost Tip) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too stiff I ordered two pairs of these ER20xs high fidelity earplugs, and I did not enjoy wearing them. Build quality is fine, but flange material too stiff for the delicate ear canal. It would be much comfortable and able to fulfill its purpose if flanger material was made out a of softer one. Competitors already use softer material. I don't recommend these for use other than for a few minutes. Ear hurts if worn for longer periods.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better full range frequency response! I have tried many different earplugs to protect my ears from loud music and they all do affect the frequency response of the live music. The ER20XS are the least offensive when it comes to clamping down on the frequency response of the live music. I am able to hear more frequency response especially in the higher frequencies. I don't believe any passive type of earplugs will ever be able to give you 100% of the fidelity from the bands but these come the closest to that for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent protection for music lovers Took these out to a big 3-day local music festival and was very pleased with the quality and clarity. I upgraded from some Ear Peace silicone plugs that muddled audio far more than they claimed, and I couldn't be happier. Even the carrying case is convenient and well-designed, apart from the fact that it's made of black rubber that can leave scuff marks on things (but no permanent damage).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not as much sound protection as I thought, still good though The earbuds are comfortable and soft and easily fit my ears. Sound quality is excellent The only issue I have noticed is that there is very little reduction in sound, much less than reported in the description. These earplugs will just barely 'take the edge off' in terms of sound protection. The lanyard is also kind of a joke, but I will continue to use until I find something better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from These do it all, goodbye foam earplugs Great ear protection and you can still hear shat everyone is saying (sort of). Compared to the little marshmallow ear plugs (foam squishy ones) these are incredible. The foam ones will muffle sounds and make it impossible to have a conversation, while these allow communication with your team without constantly removing them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As advertised. Use these for gigs - so far, so good. They're a bit uncomfortable but after a while you get used to them. Definitely spares me from the bad ringing in my ears typical from a gig without them. Bass frequencies are a bit muddy but the highs and mids come through pretty well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from These really work I bought these with another brand that I didn't like at all. These are very effective and somewhat comfortable, as they go far into the ear canal. I only wear them for an hour spin class, so I'm not sure how comfortable they are for several hours or more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome earplugs and extremely compact Loved these earplugs. They are very compact and comfortable so they are perfect for travel and storing in a daypack or even your pocket. I wish the included storage case was better given the price but definitely an awesome product.
