Rocstor K20AXX-BK overview

  • 1Description

The Amphibious X7 Mobile Encrypted FireWire 800 & USB 2.0 Hard Drive Enclosure from Rocstor is a two-factor authentication, real-time, hardware encrypted external drive enclosure that can house and protect the data on your storage drive. It comes without a storage drive and supports an optional 2.5" SATA hard drive or SSD. Additionally, it connects to a computer via FireWire 800 or USB 2.0 and has two FireWire ports that let you daisy chain with other FireWire devices. Designed and engineered to satisfy the requirements of security concerned professionals, the Amphibious X7 is also bootable, is solely bus powered, and is compatible with Windows and Macintosh environments without any required software installations.

In addition to being a hardware-based encryption device that helps secure data against hackers and information thieves, the Amphibious X7 supports the 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) Algorithm in real time with virtually no loss in performance. The Amphibious X7 does not require any additional software to be installed and is fully independent of the operating system. Once deployed, all the data on the X7 is protected from unauthorized access in the event that the device is lost or stolen.

While in CBC (Cipher Block Chaining) mode, the encryption meets certifications from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and U.S. Federal Information Processing Standard FIPS Level 2 for a cryptographic module. The Amphibious X7 is authenticated by a secure, ISO7816-compliant smart card and PIN number, which is entered using an embedded keypad. This helps to ensure protection from key-loggers who may be recording keystrokes.

Included with the Amphibious X7 are two smart cards, USB and FireWire 800 cables as well as a carrying case.

Encryption Features

Advanced Encryption Standard Algorithm AES 256-bit key strength
Real-time encryption (virtually zero time in encrypting and decrypting the data)
Military-grade hardware encryption (not software embedded in a chip)
Two-factor authentication - smart card and password protected
The cryptographic engine supports the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) of USA and CSE (Communications Security Establishment) of Canada certified hardware AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) algorithm
FIPS (U.S. Federal Information Processing Standard) 140-2 Cryptographic Engine validated
No software or GUI involved or required installation (for encryption or authentication)
The Amphibious X7 comes with two smart cards; Additional smart cards may be purchased separately

General

Regulatory Compliance
The Amphibious X7 employs data encryption and pre-boot authentication allowing organizations to better protect and control access to their corporate and customer records, thus complying with regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Gramm-Leach-Bliley (GLB); it is also FCC, CE, and ISO7816 smart card compliant
Real-Time Hardware Encryption
The Amphibious X7 Mobile authenticates the user every time it is plugged into a computer. You not only need to insert a smart card, but also need to key in a password PIN before the drive becomes accessible. This two-factor authentication gives you the same level of security offered by banks
Encryption Technology
One of the most secure hardware-based encryption chipsets is integrated into the internal circuitry of the Amphibious lines. The chipset contains features such as Advanced Encryption Standard Algorithm AES 256-bit key strength and real-time encryption so that there is virtually zero time in encrypting and decrypting the data. While in either CBC (Cipher Block Chaining) or ECB (Electronic Codebook) modes, the encryption chipset bears certifications from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and FIPS Level 2 for a Cryptographic Module

Enclosure Design

Secure Shock-Absorbent Mechanism
The full-length bridgeboard helps provide additional protection by physically supporting the hard drive. A strong aluminum rim helps hold the hard drive chassis firmly in place, eliminating stress on the bridgeboard and preventing damage due to impact or violent movement
Shock-Absorbent Protection
The shock-absorbent damper strip between the bridgeboard and chassis helps offer additional resistance against accidental drops and bumps
Thermal Protection and Load-Bearing Case
The density of the rugged aluminum border helps provides heat dissipation and is strong enough to bear external weight
