    Seagate STEB4000100 reviews

4TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Slowest Drive Ever Drive sees USB 3.0 ports as USB 2.0 on my machine and shows a warning every time it starts up. Seagate advised updating drivers. No improvement after doing so. Seagate then said a bad cable shipped with this unit -- but ignored my request for them to replace it. The plug that goes into the drive is not like any USB connector that I have ever seen. No idea where I would find another one. On a Windows 7(64-bit) pc, with a quad core CPU and 6GB of RAM, it took five and a half hours to back up 174GB of data from my internal HDD to the Seagate Expansion drive. By comparison, on a Windows XP (32-bit) computer with a 2-core CPU and 2GB of RAM, it took approximately an hour and a half to transfer 232 GB from one USB 2.0 drive to another. Seagate's response:4TB Expansion drive is not marketed as a fast drive, however our Backup Plus portable 4TB Fast drive is. Their advice: by another computer with USB 3.0 drives and hope it works. Really?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Black Box Storage Accurately described. Great value for money. Great for Xbox one extended storage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Basic workhorse for backups and archival storage If you are considering the purchase of a new hard drive, think about what tasks you expect from the drive and how you intend to use it. I do not expect this to be the fastest drive and do not utilize it as a daily scratch disk. Purchased as a network backup and archival storage, this drive is perfect for that task. Unlike other reviews, I have found zero issues with the drive or included power and cables. Plug. Play. Archive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Storage I've only used this hard drive for a few weeks, so I can't judge its longevity, but it's working well. I've typically only purchased Western Digital drives for video work, but I bought this one as a large solution for Time Machine backup with my iMac because it was less expensive. Even though the drive is only listed as compatible with Windows out of the box, I can attest that it works fine with Macs as long as you re-format it with Disk Utility as soon as you get it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from GARBAGE! Unit suddenly lost power, will not restart, (NO Power) ALL our back-up GONE!! Seagate should be ashamed for producing such a poor quality product. Now to RMA it back, we have to pay out of pocket, were done with Seagates Expansion Desktop Drives. NEXT Western Digital and HGST, hopefully we have better luck. we handle these items with kid gloves and to have them abruptly fail is sad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cheap way to get a good bare 4 TB drive I bought these just for the bare drive. Funny marketing: the drive + USB interface + enclosure + power supply is cheaper than just the drive. In any case, the drives work well. I store lots of home video on them. They spin down when not in use, but they're powered on 24/7. Backblaze's latest failure rates show a pretty typical rate for these drives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lot's of video goes here. Worked with WD for a long time then a Seagate drive has outlasted all my drives. I DJed with it. So it wasn't treated kindly. Bought it about 2010 or so and it it still going strong. That made me rethink my allegiance to WD. AS ADVERTISED this is being a fine drive. HIghly recommended. If it last 5 years or more you have me for life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far a happy externsl Seagate user. I do video production work, currently completing a documentary on a haunted attraction (using footage from the past 20 years). Footage runs from VHS-C, DVcam, 1080p HD to 4K. I needed to store backup. Price was very good with B & H, plus quick delivery. So far, everything is as it should be. Reason I always buy from B & H.
