IOGEAR GHDSW4K4 overview

  • 1Description

Requiring little power, the IOGEAR 4-Port 4K HDMI Switch needs no more than the power provided from one of your HDMI sources, allowing you to cut down on cable clutter and generally allowing for more convenience. If your HDMI source does not supply enough power, the switcher features a micro-USB power port that you can connect a computer or laptop to for power. Adding further to the convenience factor, the switcher has an easy-access design featuring three inputs on the rear panel while one is located in front so you can easier connect/disconnect temporary devices.

The switcher features 4 inputs and 1 output and supports up to UltraHD 4K resolution (3840 x 2160), 12-bit deep color, 3D video, and DTS, Dolby, DTS-HD, Dolby True HD, LPCM 7.1, and AC3 audio, and it's HDCP compliant for compatibility with HDCP protected devices.

You can switch between sources via front panel push-buttons or the included remote control, while LED indicators on the front panel confirm your selections. There's also an IR extension port that will allow you to connect an optional IR extension cable so you can keep the switcher out of sight.

    IOGEAR GHDSW4K4 reviews

    4-Port 4K HDMI Switch is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Remote has no effect on device I received the switch, hooked it up, and found that the remote had no effect whatsoever. I assumed that the problem was the remote. I tried a different battery, but the remote would not change the input. I contacted B&H, and they were great about sending me a replacement unit. However, I had the exact same problem the second time. The remote won't do anything to the unit. I've since figured out that the remote is actually sending a signal, but the unit is clearly not picking it up. It doesn't matter how close the remote is to the unit, it simply won't work. Will be returning this as I can't find anything online to solve this problem, and IOGEAR ignored my support request.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Remarkable for the cost This little thing switches nicely between multiple sources, HDCP included. It has a slight glitch sometimes during the switch and also dips to black for a short second as all HDMI switchers do to complete their 'handshake'. Because of that I wouldn't use it for important live presentations but it serves nicely as an A/B switch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HDMI splitter Works great. Excellent piece of equipment. If you have one or more items that works off hdmi this is the piece of you. The price is reasonable and for the price you pay you love how long this piece of equipment will work for you. It also comes along with a remote that allows you to switch different consoles. For my case I have a ps4 Xbox one blu ray player and a Apple TV. I love it and it works just fine for me. Hope you like and buy this item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT SWITCH! I purchased this switch to replace one that went bad (Purchased 11 years ago, same brand.). This unit is very well made and will switch automatically. Our cable box supplies the power and it will switch to whatever attached device is powered on last. One of the four ports is located on the front which is easily accessed for cameras or other portable HDMI devices. This newer version is much improved over the original it replaced.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than expected I didn't expect a lot for the price here, but got more than I expected. This switcher is both smaller and heavier then I expected, which is great. It's all metal and feels really solid. I was also pleased to find it does not require an external power supply by plugged in - it takes it's power from the HDMI input cables. The one port on the front has proven to be even more convenient than I originally expected.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very simple switch This is a very simple switch suitable for home theater installations. completely cuts off signal when switching between sources, so not suitable for any production application. Some HDMI sources (Like my cannon X-305) do not recognize it as an actual connection and will refuse to function.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as planned I like having the button and lights on the front of the unit so it's easy to see which input is active. Also I like the layout with 3 inputs in the back, and 1 in the front. The one in front makes it easy to access the infrequent input of a laptop.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 4-Port Iogear HDMI Switch Simple, Space-Saver, but Quirky I have three devices that feed the one HDMI input on my TV: A Windows 7 laptop, a Windows 8 laptop and a really cool subscription free OTA DVR. The Iogear 4-Port 4K HDMI Switch is unusual in that it requires no AC, which certainly gives the space-starved power strips that are ubiquitous in most entertainment system setups (at least they are in mine!) a well-deserved break; it derives its power directly from the HDMI feeds to which it is connected, and I confess I had no idea that HDMI feeds were capable of doing that! It's a somewhat mixed blessing however. One has to be very cautious about connecting the HDMI cable to your sources. For example, when I connected my Windows 8 laptop to the Iogear, the laptop promptly turned off! I had to reboot from scratch! So one has to turn all the devices off first before connecting gear to the Iogear. Once all cables are in place at both ends for all devices, then turn on all your various boxes and the thing will work properly. There was also an intermittent quirk on the remote control. One can directly address the various sources to which one wishes to switch. Whatever you have connected to port 1 can be pulled up by simply pushing the 1 button, the port 2 source can be pulled up by pushing the 2 button, and so forth and so on. But the first time I connected the DVR to the Iogear, which was the first time I had more than two sources connected to it, the directly addressable number buttons no longer worked. Only the Input select button at top, which simply cycles through the connected sources, would work. After a day, that problem mysteriously disappeared. The bottom line, it does what I wanted it to do, -- now, after these minor mishaps, -- and, for the money, there's nothing else I know which gives one this capability. Just be prepared for some curve balls before everything's up and running.
