Samyang 12mm f/2.8 Fisheye Overview

The 12mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye Lens for Canon EF Mount from Samyang provides a 180º diagonal angle of view on full-frame cameras for an ultra-wide angle, distorted perspective that is useful for architectural interiors, landscapes and creative experimentation in any photographic application. The f/2.8 maximum aperture is effective in low-light situations and enables some measure of shallow depth of field control.

The lens's sophisticated optical design consists of 12 lens elements arranged in 8 groups including three elements made of low dispersion ED glass and two aspherical lens elements to minimize coma and chromatic aberrations. The Nano Coating System (NCS) lowers reflections to provide increased contrast. Its internal focus system enables its compact design and keeps the front element from extending during focus.

As a manual focus, manual aperture lens, it offers a wide, easy to grip focus ring and bright aperture, distance and depth of field markings. A removable petal-shaped lens hood and a carrying pouch are included.

An ultra wide-angle fisheye lens with a 12mm focal length on full-frame cameras and an 18mm equivalency when used on APS-C format cameras. Its distorted perspective is useful for interiors, landscapes, group shots and many creative wide-angle applications.
Extra low dispersion and aspherical lens elements reduce aberrations for sharp, color-accurate imaging.
Manual focus lens with an internal focus system and wide, rubberized focus ring.
Manual aperture control with bright markings for aperture, distance and depth of field.
Sturdy metal barrel with removable petal-shaped lens hood.

Will this lens communicate with the S1/S1H? Metering info?
Asked by: jacob
The Samyang 12mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye Lens for Canon EF Mount (B&H# SA12F28FFFLC) will not communicate with the camera. Please note that it is currently available for Canon EF, Nikon F, and Pentax K mount cameras. Adapters may be used, however, to get those to work with other cameras -- especially mirrorless ones.

Is this lens weather sealed? If not, which semi-comparable lens has it?
Asked by: jacob
The Samyang 12mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye Lens is not weather sealed. In the Canon mount, the only weather sealed option is the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM Lens linked here. https://bhpho.to/3lIQTp7

question

Does the Samyang 12mm F/2.8 fisheye mount safely onto the Canon 6D mark 2 which has a larger sensor than the 6D?
Asked by: Cheryl K.
The Canon 6D Mark II's full frame sensor is .1mm larger on both sides than the Canon 6D's full frame sensor. This amount is so small as to not ever be a consideration. You can safely use this lens on either camera.

If you are using software that works with fish-eye lenses that lens can work. Otherwise use a wide lens that is not a fish eye.

Would there be any notable difference between using this lens with Sigma adapter on an S1H versus a native L mount fisheye of the same focal length? Same lens, but one's adapted--is there an advantage optically?
Asked by: jacob
With adapters that do not have an optical lens there is no degradation of the image. Any sharpness difference would depend on the sharpness of each lens themselves.

Is the lens hood removable?
Asked by: Elizabeth
Yes, the bayonet lens hood included with the Samyang 12mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye Lens for Sony E Mount is removable. To connect the lens hood to the lens, you would align the attachment reference point on the hood with the hood reference point on the front of the lens, then push the lens hood onto the lens and turn the hood clockwise until it clicks into place. To remove the lens hood from the lens, you would simply reverse the process.
