Voigtlander Super Wide-Heliar 15mm f/4.5 Asph... Reviews

Good lens

I have never mounted a non-Leica lens on any of my Leica bodies and I still don't. I purchased this lens to use on my z5 with a Novoflex adapter. I was hoping that due to its aspheric modern design, it would equal or exceed my 1975 era Pentax 15mm f/3.5 K lens which is ginormous with the fotodiox adapter. It's very good....no color shifts in the corners and no apparent distortion. It has a cool side rendering of color (easily changeable in LR) and is very sharp. It doesn't quite match the performance of the Pentax lens (which was designed in collaboration with Zeiss) but it is close enough to replace it for casual walking around. The build quality totally silences any criticism. I am very happy with this purchase, and you will be too.

Best superwide quality for money for Leica M

I shoot with a Leica M10-R and the results outstands the money spent for the lens. Equivalent if not better than any other superwide on the market costing 5 times more. Only some loss of details in the extreme borders of the frame (with the 43 mpx sensor of the M10-R). Nothing to be concerned of: closing down to f/8-11 becomes unnoticeable.

Great colors and sharpness. Little vignetting or distortion. A great lens for film and adapted to mirrorless.

A great lens at any price

We bought one of these lenses as well as a Zeiss 15mm, Nikon mount. I was surprised to find the the Voigtlander performed very well indeed and in our tests was slightly ahead of the Zeiss lens in sharpness. This may have been to do with the Leica SL sensor used with this lens compared with a Nikon Df sensor but whatever the case, this lens won. The Voigtlander is nice and small... it's not going to win any 'mine's bigger than yours' competitions but it is great for travel as well as architecture and cars. The build quality and movements are nice and smooth and German feeling in a way the Zeiss is not. I don't know how this lens would go on a Leica M but on a Leica SL, it's remarkably good.

Unique lens

This lens is very good, I really love it and its one of a kind. There's very limited things you can do with it but the ones you can are so worth it!

Tight mount

I bought this lens for Leica M240. Good: very sharp and has no distortion. Voigtlander redesign this 15mm has no pink color at all corners. Bad: my copy has very tight mount. It rubs and scratches the 6 bits code sensors on the mount ring.

Very Impressed

I am blown away by this lens. I tried the Leica Tri Elmer (WATE) but ended up committing to the Leica SE 21. This left me looking for a Super-Wide Lens to complete my set. I had relative reservations about the Voigtlander 15mm but it is simply extraordinary. It may flair a little under the right (or wrong) conditions, and it may also have a little bit of a personality but, well used, it is exceptional. Super wide shooting is not for everyone, and it really is a photographer tool to understand and use. Take a moment to understand this lens and it is a joy. note: the lake house shot with all the distortions and flairs is a 10-second shot with ND Filters etc. It is technically all over the place and should be discarded within the rest of the photos from that day, but I love it because it shows the darker side of this lens under extreme conditions) Leveled it has very little distortion, I happen to like Wide angle distorion

Thing of beauty

My first non-Leica M lens. Visually and mechanically beautiful. I love the early Leica focus ring implementation. I installed it on my Nikon z5 and compared it to my 15mm f/3.5 smc Pentax A lens. A bit more vignetting and not quite as sharp at extreme magnification (meaningless), I am very happy. This will be my ultra wide lens on my Leica M3 and M6 film cameras......for which I bought it. As usual B&H was perfect!

It is not compatible because the hood is built in so you won't be able to place the Lee filter holder onto the lens.

You would need to purchase a lens adapter such as either the Novoflex Adapter for Leica M Mount Lens to Canon EOS M Cameras, B&H # NOEOSMLEM, or the FotodioX Pro Lens Mount Adapter for Leica M-Mount Lens to Canon EF-M Mount Camera, B&H # FOPLMALMLEM, to connect the Voigtlander Super Wide-Heliar 15mm f/4.5 Aspherical III Lens onto the Canon EOS M50 Mirrorless Digital Camera.

Does this work on Canon 7s renge finders from the 60s? They take a 39mm screw mount but not sure on threads and focal distance. Thanks
Asked by: Erik
No, the Voigtlander Super Wide-Heliar 15mm f/4.5 Aspherical III Lens is not compatible for use on the Canon 7s 35mm Rangefinder Camera. The Voigtlander Super Wide-Heliar 15mm f/4.5 Aspherical III Lens uses the Leica M-mount bayonet mount whereas the Canon 7s uses the Leica M39 screw mount. Unfortunately, we have no lens mount adapters that convert the Leica M bayonet mount to the Leica M39 screw mount for your usage needs. However, while not identical, if you are looking for a lens with a similar focal length, you may purchase the FotodioX Pro Lens Mount Adapter for Nikon F-Mount Lens to M39-Mount Camera, B&H # FOPLMANFLM39, along with either the IRIX 15mm f/2.4 Blackstone Lens for Nikon F, B&H # IR15BSN, the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Nikon F, B&H # VE1540N, or the Venus Optics Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens for Nikon F (Silver), B&H # VE1228NAIS, for your usage needs.

Asked by: Ahsan
The Voigtlander Super Wide-Heliar 15mm f/4.5 Aspherical III Lens is now available in the E mount as well as the M mount. The original version is the same size and weight as version III, the big difference is the lens coating.

question

Is it working well with M8? Do I need to use along with the IR filter and a 21mm view finder?
Asked by: Carrie H.
The Voigtlander Super Wide-Heliar 15mm f/4.5 Aspherical III Lens is compatible for use with the Leica M8. If you use infrared cut filters on your other lenses on your Leica M8, then it would also be recommended for this lens. The B+W 58mm UV/IR Cut MRC 486M Filter, B&H # BW486MC58, would be a good option for your usage needs. While the 21mm viewfinder is slightly narrower than the cropped field of view of the 15mm lens (15mm x 1.33 = 19.95mm), it is the closest viewfinder focal length and will work for framing your subject; just note that it will slightly crop in on the scene.
