Lunt Solar Systems offers a complete dedicated solar observation instrument with the LS80THA 80mm f/7 Hydrogen-A Solar Refractor Telescope. This precision-aligned refractor has a fully unobstructed 80mm aperture with a 560mm focal length, and provides a step up into the intermediate category of solar observing over smaller models. Its pressure-tuned Doppler True Tuning is capable of fine adjustment of the center wavelength, allowing research of the Sun's disk and surface details at increased image scale. Prominences, flares, super granulation, filaments, and active regions will be able to be observed.
True Doppler Tuning allows for a shift into and away from the user, adding a depth of field and increased contrast to the viewing experience. While it will have minimal effect on proms due to their location at the edge of the disk, it will have an effect on filaments and active regions on the surface. While looking at a filament at the center of the Sun, the user will have the ability to Doppler shift from the base of the filament to the tip, following the filament through its structure toward you and away from you, allowing for enhanced visual and imaging capability.
The scope is outfitted with a 2" dual-speed Feather Touch rack-and-pinion focuser and a 18mm blocking filter that can be used for visual observation with a wider field of view over smaller blocking filters or imaging. A flat field zoom eyepiece is included that produces a wide magnification range from 26-78x power. It features a flat-field design that removes the fuzziness and flared appearance that can often appear near the edges of conventional eyepieces for sharp images across the entire field of view.
To safely find the sun to begin observation, Lunt includes the Tele Vue Sol Searcher solar finderscope. Its projection-style system allows you to find and align the scope with the Sun without putting your eyes in danger. A 6" Vixen-style dovetail saddle allows the OTA to be used with a large array of user-supplied EQ or Alt-Az mounts for more precise and easier tracking. To protect your investment during transportation and storage, a foam-lined hard carrying case is also included.
