The 12AY7 Mic Pre from Electro-Harmonix is a Class A dual-tube microphone preamplifier. It is small, portable, and lightweight, allowing studios to place it near the microphone and run it line-level to recorders and monitor mixers. Using a 200V power supply, the 12AY7 Mic Pre has a wide dynamic range and up to 50 dB of gain to boost your microphone level up to line level. There are separate XLR and 1/4" balanced outputs, which can be used to split the signal for recording and monitoring in live performance applications. A FET current-balancing circuit eliminates noise and hum, allowing the tubes to amplify your microphone in a noise-free environment, and offers more than 80dB of CMRR.
The preamp also has a Phase Reverse switch that allows alignment at 0 or 180 degrees, as placement of multiple microphones on common sources can affect overall sound. Toggling this switch inverts the phase of 12AY7. Engaging the 48V phantom power supply produces a pop-free ramp up, and supplies 10mAh. The low-cut filter is useful for controlling proximity effect and reducing rumble from wind or vibration. Also included is a +4 dBu LED indicator to help you optimize your levels.
