Marantz PMD-901V overview

  • 1Description

Designed for law enforcement, EMTs, healthcare workers, and others who interact frequently with the public, the Marantz PMD-901V Night Vision Body Camera with GPS is a body-worn camera which securely captures and documents events with audio, HD video, and GPS location data, even in extreme environmental conditions. The captured data is recorded to 32GB of secure tamperproof internal storage. This provides approximately 10 continuous hours of video capture at up to 2304 x 1296 resolution, enough for a single standard work day. With a swiveling clip, the PMD-901V attaches unobtrusively to the user's clothing, and the 140° field-of-view lens gives an ultra wide-angle view of whatever the camera is pointed at. The internal GPS receiver provides automatic location tagging of video and still images, offering substantiation of where and when the audio and video were recorded.

Purpose-built for commercial applications, the PMD-901V seamlessly integrates with uniforms and heavy outerwear, and can be operated single-handedly, making gloved operation a simple task. A backlit, high-resolution 2-inch color screen provides in-field review capabilities, and the password-protected files are secure from tampering or erasure by unauthorized personnel. On-the-fly file marking lets users quickly identify clips containing notable events while offloading them to a computer over USB.

    Marantz PMD-901V reviews

PMD-901V Night Vision Body Camera with GPS is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is solid, and the video is good Mine shoots great video, with no lag or frame drops that I can see. It feels like it's built like a tank. I only have two issues. First, the clip won't rotate. I'd like to be able to clip it to a jacket front sideways and have the camera upright. Second, I can't figure out how to save the time offset or unit ID. I can enter them, but nothing saves them that I can see. I emailed Marantz though, and their response was prompt. A real human being is going to find out and let me know. I'll post the info when I get it. Finally, mine came WITH the second camera, which was really neat.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a GoPro Replacement The PMD-901V is probably fine for use as a body cam or in-vehicle surveillance device, but the video and audio quality are poor. I don't believe the specs on this device to be true. The specs state that the device Records Video at 2304 x 1296 Resolution, but resolution does not appear that high to my eye. In fact, it does not look anywhere close to 1080 or even 720. The video is blocky and noisy, most likely due to extreme compression, but there's no way to get uncompressed video out of the device to my knowledge. To be fair, I bought this to see if it could do the same or better job as a GoPro (imagine skiing with a GoPro quality body cam that records many hours of video at hi-quality), but this device doesn't even come close.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, not great I read a review complaining this not a Go pro replacement. No, it's not. Then again, I don't think it's marketed as a one so not sure why they complained. It's a fairly heavy duty body cam that has, compared to similar products. I've dropped the unit several times on the streets and not a scratch. Long battery life, good quality video (not great) but I ran a side by side compare to the newer GP Session and frankly could not see much difference. With 32 GB installed, lots of record time too. The night vision is mediocre but if you want a solid easy to use body cam that can take a pounding, this is a sure bet when it's on a super sale.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Run..just run away I just receive my THIRD 901, trying to get ONE that works. This is an addendum to my other review. First one, would not stop recording. At all. No matter what. Second one, would not charge. Third one (received today) has NO GPS in the menu. Seriously, there's an entire item just not even in the menu. So I can't turn it on since it's not in there. So no GPS. And the files that I did record had no audio. None. Also, the menu button is not working the way it should. Finally, even though it's not in the advertisement or description, the first two had the external wired camera in the box. The third one did not. As I say, it's not in the description, so I can't base my return on it, but for two to have it and one not says a lot about quality control, or the lack thereof. So I'm sending number 3 back tomorrow for a refund, although part of me wants to just keep going till I get one that works. But at this point, I have to question how long it would work if I did find that needle in the haystack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome camera. Great for document interactions with people I use this camera with the attached accessory camera lens to record my interactions with government employees while doing open public records requests and animal shelter investigations. Camera is great, it has decent night vision, it can clip on your belt and you can run the wired lens to your shirt to record at chest level. I highly recommend this camera.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Going to have to go with one star...can't get one that works My first one would not stop recording. Nothing would stop it. Followed instructions exactly, it would not stop recording. Sent it back, got a second unit. This one won't charge. Blue (charging) light just blinks rapidly. From what I could tell it seems like a pretty robust unit with a ton of features, but if it's busted right out of the box how good is it going to hold up to outside use?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DOES NOT TURN ON!!!! Seeing it for the price that it was advertised for I knew it had to be too good to be true and my luck being the way it is of course I ordered it but I had a bad feeling soon as I ordered it and I thought to myself I bet it does not work when I get it and WHALA I got it and guess what IT DOES NOT TURN ON!!!!! So I figured this can't be, how did I guess it would be like this so to be sure I let it charge for a full day and guess what......IT DOES NOT TURN ON!!!! Will be sending it back for a full refund don't even want to chance trying to get another one which may or may not work giving my luck with these things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am glad that I purchased Marantz body cam (PMD-901V) First of all, I would like to make it clear that I am NOT an Marantz insider and that I did NOT get it as a free sample. I did not buy it for professional use. I am more of an enthusiast who bought it for recreational use. To be honest, when I bought it, I was a bit skeptical about the performance of this wearable body camera. But I was very wrong (and I am glad that I was wrong). I would like to summarize my review based on the following points: 1) Specifications - Impressive: It's all mentioned on B&H. 2) Build Quality- Excellent When you hold the camera, it feels really good. The camera is very well build and it does NOT feel cheap at all. It also feels solid and sturdy and I think it will survive in any weather. It is also claimed by the manufacturer to survive at 3ft below water for 30 mins but I haven't tried it yet. 3) Design - Excellent The camera is designed very well. Placement of all the buttons is very well thought of. The rectangular shape with cut-off corners is a very good looking design and it really looks professional. 4) User Interface - Very Good The camera is easy to use. I spent around 30 - 35 mins reading the user manual and it was all simple. No complicated controls. Intuitive, simple and easy to use menus. The most important thing that I like about this camera is that there are not too many complicated settings. It's moderately simple. 5) Performance - Exceeds expectations As I mentioned, I was a bit skeptical about the camera so I did not expect it to work so well. The video quality is very good with excellent sound. I tested 2304 x 1296 at 30 fps and 1440 x 1080 at 30 fps. I could not make out the difference but both videos were impressive. The images are just average but that understandable. The battery will last for 4-5 hours of continuous video recording. I my self tested it for 3 hours and I still had around 30% battery remaining. I will cut it short because of the review size limitations. In short, I am very happy and pleased.
