Great Lighting Tool

I was in a class with Kevin Kubota, so was able to use it in a variety of situations. Decided to get one after returning home. It is a portable and well controlled way to convert a speedlight into a soft light source. The nice part is this breaks down and can be carried in my luggage. It is just the tool I need as a solo photographer.

Good

No this product isn't amazing, however it gets the job done. It's a bit unwieldy. My assistant is not a very large person and when the wind kicks up it seems like she's about to fly off with it. Assembly isn't hard but it is slightly difficult especially if your holding a camera. The performance is good though and it's great for portraits.

Upon delivery, used it immediately for an outdoor, late afternoon portrait shoot. This item worked as described to deliver beautiful, soft light.

I just got this after taking a Event Space class with Kevin Kubota. He used this in his class and on our photo walk. Seeing as he is the inventor, I was able to really see its use in action. I couldn't wait to get home and practice with it! The first time I used it I am now convinced that it will definitely help in making my images really stand creative control this gives you is amazing! It even will attach to a stand for times I don't have an assistant with me! I highly recommend s product!!

Surprisingly effective, but with an assistant.

I'm pleased with the results I get with this diffuser but I'm less likely to use it if I don't have an assistant. Unless I'm shooting a large event, I typically work without an assistant. However on my first use of this product I did have an assistant whom managed this diffuser and I was very pleased with the results. However my second shoot, photographing a family in the countryside and working without an assistant, I ended up setting it aside as it was taking too much time to set up. So I suggest assembling it before you leave for a location shoot. At first was concerned that a single flash wouldn't have the power to shoot through it effectively but my Canon 580EXII did quite well. Overall I'm pleased with the LunaGrip Kit and would can honestly endorse it. I'd include an example photo but the 9 sec. upload time limit won't permit my sharing.

Handy addition , easy to use. Works with flash and without

Out of the bag, no issues with assembly. All parts seem to be of good quality. The clipping means to change the reflector for the diffuser or a different diffuser material takes a little longer but it is not a huge problem . Should make it easier if no assistant to hold diffuser, but able to fire camer with a remote. Worth buying.

Constant lighting

I hooked my 40 dollar LED constant lighting to it and It gives me a beautiful soft look that Is just jaw dropping. My LED isn't bright enough to nail that main/key light position just yet, but I will definitely recommend this very mobile contraption for constant lighting.

This item is great!

I love this so much. It was a great idea to design and make this. So handy for quick setups, and for a job where you are in tight quarters, or moving around a lot. I specifically use it for pet photography, and for anytime I need a great light source without having to lug around big modifiers. Highly recommended!

I saw some photos and it looked like the catch lights were a bit weird, like a cross. Are the catch lights round and solid?
Asked by: Allyson
There is nothing to obstruct the light from the diffusion panel on the LunaGrip. The catch light will be the shape and size of the reflector/diffusion panel you choose to attach to the LunaGrip.

question

Purchased kit and speed light what nightstand and adaptors are needed? Do I need a trigger?
Asked by: Audra B.
You will need a transceiver to remotely operate your speed light. It attaches to the hot shoe on your camera. I purchased a light stand with a tilting adapter but it connected with no problem to my Manfrotto camera tripod with the 1/4-20 male screw

question

Does this come with the 40in 5-1 reflector ?
Asked by: Anonymous
The kit comes with the 5-in-1 diffuser/reflector. It can hold the diffuser to shoot flash through or you can put the reflective cover on and it can serve as a perfectly flat reflector holder as well. You can even bounce the flash in to the reflector if you want an umbrella like broad light.

question

I would like to know if someone tried to use the 50 inch diffuser with this item ? I know the description says 42 inch but I'm wondering if it can fit anyway. Thx

$135. for this? Just use a shoot through umbrella and a flash bracket to get the same results. Save over $100. I can't believe anyone would buy this.

Use a shoot through umbrella, same results and a lot cheaper.

question

Is the speedlight bracket adjustable to accommodate the extra height of a speedlight mounted on top of a Phottix radio trigger, and still keep the aim the speedlght centered in the ring?
Asked by: Tom R.
I own a Metz 52 AF (an average sized flash) and there would be plenty of space to add a trigger. There are two holes that can be used to attach the bracket and holds the flash. I am using the top hole. If you have a very tall flash, there is a second, lower hole that would give an additional 1 1/4 inches of adjustment.
