Ubiquiti Networks ER-X-SFP overview

  • 1Description

Take advantage of fast Gigabit Ethernet data speeds with the ER-X-SFP EdgeRouter X from Ubiquiti Networks. This router comes equipped with a total of five Gigabit Ethernet ports with passive PoE support and one Gigabit SFP port for backhaul applications. Each of these ports is configurable for line-rate, Layer-2 switching. Inside the router you will find a 880 MHz dual-core processor along with 256 MB of DDR3 RAM and 256 MB of NAND code storage.

The advanced hardware found inside this Ubiquiti Networks router allows you to leverage the power of PoE. Eliminate the need for power adapters and power the EdgeRouter X with 24 V passive PoE input. You can also utilize the passive PoE output feature to power a single airMAX device.

PoE Versatility
The SFP model, the ER‑X‑SFP, is powered by an external power adapter. The five Gigabit RJ45 ports support 24 V passive PoE output for airMAX or UniFi devices, while its SFP port provides fiber connectivity to support backhaul applications.
Configuration Methods
Powered by a proprietary and intuitive graphical interface, EdgeOS, this EdgeRouter X can easily be configured for the routing, security, and management features required to run your network efficiently. For advanced network professionals, an integrated CLI is available for quick and direct access using familiar commands.
Intuitive User Interface
The EdgeRouter X provides a graphical user interface designed for convenient setup and control. Accessed via a network port and web browser, the user-friendly interface provides intuitive management with a virtual view of the ports, displaying physical connectivity, speed, and status.

The Dashboard displays detailed statistics: IP information, MTU, transmit and receive speeds, and status for each physical and virtual interface.
Edge Operating System
EdgeOS is a sophisticated operating system with robust features, including:
• VLAN interfaces for network segmentation
• Static routes and support of routing protocols: OSPF, RIP, and BGP
• Firewall policies and NAT rules
• DHCP services
• Quality of Service (QoS)
• Network administration and monitoring tools
• Administrator and operator accounts
• Comprehensive IPv6 support
Configuration by CLI
The CLI provides quick and flexible configuration by command line and features the following:
• For power users, configuration and monitoring of all advanced features
• Direct access to standard Linux tools and shell commands

    Ubiquiti Networks ER-X-SFP reviews

    ER-X-SFP EdgeRouter X is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality I purchased this router (along with a UniFi AP) to replace an aging Netgear wireless router/AP. I had installed DD-WRT on that router and a lot of those features are included in this router. There are now however, no connection drops on my network. If you're looking at purchasing this router, you probably know what you'll be able to do with this thing. The only issue I could see is if someone with no networking knowledge tried to configure it. A VERY basic understanding of networking is required. There are included wizards, so you may not even need that. You really can't beat the price for the quality you're getting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Universal device from Ubiquiti I needed to get a PoE switch, so ever since I had a pleasant experience with ER-X router, I decided to get an ER-X-SFP router and configured it as a switch. So I got to myself a 5 port PoE switch (6 port with SFP port). This device is universal, thanks to Edgemax OS, it can implement hi-end router functions, besides, it can be a PoE data switch. in general, since I discovered Ubiquiti Networks line of products I lost interest to any other products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for domestic use I was really taken back by the stability, the software and how easy it was to switch over from my old router to this one. Having the PoE is tremendous, I am able to link my AP's and IP Camera's without running additional power cables. A simple yet still robust home or small business network can be setup in less then an hour with multiple AP's and best of all, its so much more reliable then anything you'll find that's consumer grade. Stop wasting money with Linksys, Netgear or any of that other nonsense. Been there, done that, wasted that money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not your mom and pop SOHO router Needed a wired high speed router as I like to keep it as bare bones as possible if I'm setting it up where wireless is not needed. This seemed to fit the bill as the Netgears I had been using did not have a WAN port that handled high spped business cable correctly. Not real intuitive as there were no marking for a WAN port. You would think the port 0 would be WAN and port 1 would be ,but nope .it's reversed. No tech support other than email,so if you have little or no knowledge of how to set up a router, this ones not for you. One year warranty and no tech support = minus two stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exactly the router that I needed! The EdgeRouter delivers big performance in a small package and cost-effectively. It would have been convenient if an RJ45 adapter were available for the SFP port (for which the SFP adapter is not included). Configuration was straightforward for a SOHO network and the PoE Ethernet ports replaced individual PoE adapters for Ubiquiti access points, cleaning up messy wiring. I look forward with confidence to implementing additional features of the device, e.g. DDNS and VPN, in the near future.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great solution for small sites that need a few PoE Ports Handles UBNT 24v passive PoE devices like UAPs and Rocket/Nanobeam just fine. Lots of interfaces to work with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Five Stars Not for the novice, but a great product with a lot of features for the price. I needed a way to better manage my home network than the standard DSL modem/router my provider had, this met that at a great price. I have some knowledge of networking set ups and I was able to have it up and running in about 15 minutes. The POE feature is nice as I was able to integrate Ubiquiti AP's directly into this router and eliminate some power cords.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bricked out of the box. Really looked forward to the arrival of this router. Unfortunately, it did not work out of the box. Lights lit up, but could not get into backend software no matter how many resets were performed.
