  • 1Description

Capture video over, under, or near the water's surface with your RED Epic, Dragon, Scarlet, or Mysterium-X digital cinema camera, thanks to this A-RED Underwater Housing from Ewa-Marine. This enclosure has a depth rating of 32.8' and uses a corrosion-resistant clamping rail seal to keep your valuable investment safe and dry. Easy access to all camera controls is provided right through the clear double-laminated PVC body, which also features a dedicated slot for the 9" RED touch LCD monitor and space for a 153Wh RED BRICK battery.

The housing has an integrated, optically neutral, flat glass lens port, which accommodates lenses with a maximum length of 7.1", a maximum diameter of 4.2", and a maximum filter thread diameter of 95mm. The supplied adapter ring mounts onto a lens with a 95mm filter thread, fixing the front element of the lens to the interior of the port to hold it securely in place. Additionally, 77-82mm and 82-95mm step-up rings are included. The housing is delivered in a black carrying case with a waterproof interior.

    Ewa-Marine EM A-RED reviews

A-RED Underwater Housing for RED Epic, Dragon, Scarlet, or Mysterium-X is rated 1.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Underwater Housing?...Just say NO! Disclaimer: I rarely write review, but as an underwater photographer and filmmaker, I feel compelled to warn those in my field about this housing. I have currently been training for my own underwater film for about 6 years when I was called by a colleague to shoot a pool sequence on a feature as affordable as possible. After scouring the Internet for about 3 reviews I decided to take the plunge and risk it on the EWA-Marine Red Epic housing. Long story short, I had to surface so many times and reduce the air in the bag, that one of the times, the side air valve failed. After about 4 tests, water leaked during the actual filming and temporarily fried the RED EPIC!! Luckily, I was keeping an eye on it and immediate shut down the camera when I noticed. Also, we had a stellar DP and AC's who immediately worked triage and the next day, resuscitated the camera. I had the 'drive of shame' home , and only a couple of shots were managed. This underwater bag is WAY overpriced for what it claims to do. Allow me to be specific (ala Eastwood.) The GOOD: This a a par EXCELLENT splash bag, no doubt. The BAD: Where to begin. Using it in the water, when you descend, the bag compresses and depresses all of your key mapping on the RED, resulting in a constant battle with your monitor and settings. Also, it becomes a floatations device, and you need at least 10 lbs of soft weights to sink it only mildly. The air is then compressed to the top of the bag, and without any underwater air release, you are forced to surface and actually press the air out. This leaves room for so much to go wrong: leakage, condensation, etc.The UGLY: It's cumbersome, you can hardly adjust focus due to compression, and condensation happens easily - especially at night when the temperature gets cold. Use at your own risk! You have been warned! Splash bag = ok! Underwater housing?! = a $ brick (formerly known as your Red Camera.) Good luck, my friends!
