This card reader is speedy in transferring photos from your card to your computer. The cable is removeable making it easy to tuck away for storage when your on the go. Has a micro SD card slot as well as a SD slot making it super convenient.

Topnotch Kingston USB 3.0 High-Speed Media Reader

I am thrilled with this media reader. My computer doesn't have an SDCard slot, and this works great! I have two infra-red cameras to capture critters in the woods behind my 4' chainlink fence. I was shocked to see a doe and an 8-point buck IN my backyard. The buck was nosing a bird feeder on a shephard's hook. I bought three bags of seedless red grapes tonight and threw them behind the fence, hoping to deter the deer from coming into my yard. We shall see. Thank you B&H for a wonderful product!

Bought this in 2019, used it a couple of times, barely used in in 2020 & 2021. Needed it recently and it died. Barely had any use out of this.

Failed for me, so ordered another brand

I owned their prior gen version and never had issues, but this one arrived without working for the microSD media. So I went with another brand rather than try again. The quality of the other brand SanDisc was much better and seemed like a more well built unit. So YMMV with this one.

Worked until it didn't

It worked fine and was wonderfully fast for almost two months. Then it kept hitting me with disk not ejected properly repeatedly as it attempted to read my card. I tried different cards, different slots, and different cords. But I don't trust it anymore and had to stop using it. Maybe I just got a faulty one. Unfortunately, it happened too late for me to return :/

question

Hello will this reader work with usb-c to usb convertor (new MacBook pro 15' 2018)? Thanks
Asked by: Glenn C.
Like all USB-C reading devices, it is backwards compatible to older USB devices. That means while it will work, it will transfer at the slower USB speed.

Will this transfer pictures to a portable hard drive as well as to a computer/laptop?
Asked by: Ira
Yes, if your computer has at least two free USB ports, one for your media reader and the other for your portable hard drive. If you only have 1 free sub port on your laptop you'll have to transfer your pictures to the computer then to the portable hard drive.

Has anyone ever timed their upload with a USB 3.0 ...

Has anyone ever timed their upload with a USB 3.0 or 3.1 to see if the stated speed is true? For example, can you load a 32 GB card in 6-7 seconds? (5 MB/sec stated speed) I am skeptical.
Asked by: Rhonwyn
The rated transfer speed is in bits but the storage is in bytes. Bytes are 8 bits. The USB 3 speed rating is higher in most cases than a memory cards read speed. Other factors apply but a 32gb card will usually take over half an hour to read.
