Updating a tried-and-true optical design for use with full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, the Batis 85mm f/1.8 from ZEISS is a portrait-length, short telephoto lens featuring a fast maximum aperture for greater focus control and enhanced low-light shooting. The Sonnar-type design, in conjunction with three anomalous partial dispersion elements, offers high contrast and accurate rendering by virtually eliminating color fringing and chromatic aberrations. A floating elements system is also used, for consistent performance throughout the focusing range, in order to achieve even sharpness and clarity. An enhanced ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has also been applied to significantly reduce ghosting and lens flare for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in difficult lighting conditions.

On a Sony FS7, What mm size does this lens equate to?

The crop factor to super 35mm it's not really calculated because its there standard base size , but if you wore to compare to a 35mm photo camera it will give you approximately 1.4 factor . So the angle of view would be 119mm equivalent to 35mm photo camera

Since this lens has in body stabilization, can anybody confirm or deny if this is is more stable than the Sony FE 85 1.8, for video, in any Sony Camera with IBIS, let's say for example, the A7III?
Asked by: Agustin
When using telephoto lenses, it is better to use stabilization built into the lens as opposed to in-body image stabilization. As such, if you will be shooting hand-held and may be using slow shutter speeds, then there would be a benefit using the ZEISS Batis 85mm f/1.8 Lens for Sony E and its internal stabilization. Both lenses are great options, and the Sony lens may have a slight edge in terms of sharpness, but for video usage and hand-held stabilization usage, the ZEISS lens would be recommended.

Is this Batis 85mm ideal for indoor basketball ...

Is this Batis 85mm ideal for indoor basketball usage, focus fast enough?
Asked by: Harry
The autofocus speed/accuracy really depends on the camera. Although this lens would be serviceable for shooting sports, you'll be much happier spending a little more to get the Sony FE 70-200mm F4. That's the perfect lens if you're just getting into sideline shooting; it will give you more reach and flexibility than the 85, and it is a little sturdier.
