B+W F-Pro overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 67mm F-Pro Kaesemann High Transmission Circular Polarizer MRC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

Kaesemann High Transmission Circular (HTC) polarizing filters are fitted with polarizing foils which provide 99.5% light transmission that are cemented between plano-parallel optical glass. The resulting sandwich is then precision-polished to achieve accurate plano-parallel surfaces. Finally, they are edge-sealed to protect the foil against humidity.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers further protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters.

B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.
Polarizing filters arrange, and filter directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.
Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are useful in combination with digital cameras and auto-focus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Multi-coated to prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.5% light transmission.
2 to 2.8x filter factor reduces exposure by 1 to 1.5 stops.
Constructed from Schott glass for optical clarity.
F-Pro brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength.
Plastic case for storage and transport.

    B+W F-Pro reviews

67mm F-Pro Kaesemann High Transmission Circular Polarizer MRC Filter is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent filter A great quality filter as expected from B+W. The extra stop over a standard polariser is awesome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't settle for less This is my second B+W KSM circular polarizer from B&H. I bought the first one (a 77mm) because I thought it might be better than the inexpensive one I had at the time, and I was just not happy with the build quality. The difference is huge! The build quality is excellent, the color cast is effectively neutral, while the polarization effect is well controlled and can be very deep. (Surprisingly, the effect is even visible during mid-day with the sun directly overhead.) As an aside - some people suggest that you buy the largest filter you need, and then use step-up rings. Great idea, until you try to use the lens shade and the CPL at the same time, as I did. It just doesn't work, at least not easily. This CPL is top quality. You'll be happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It Works Beautifully! It brings the clouds and cuts through the haze very nicely. A tripod will help a lot to get that perfect shot you always wanted. If you take scenic shots all the time, you will need one of these babies! If someday they can come up with a polarizer filter that goes from +0 factor, like a UV or clear filter, then go back to function as a regular polarizer, that would be a perfect filter for every photographer to have on all their lenses!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It Makes The Clouds Stand Out More It is nice and smooth action when I turn it to the left when used. It is very easy to turn it to the right to loosen the filter and take it off from the lens. Very easy to clean too. Yes, it is too expensive to keep the filters all BW made. You probably can buy some other medium priced polarizers if you don't want to pay the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from superlative CPL This is not my first B+W filter as all filters I own UV, CPL and IR are B+W. I like their glass, frame, quality, precision and smoothness. Only one thing: the B+W CPL do not have a zero reference point. However, it is easy to find it and mark it with a micro drop of paint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Predictable B+H quality and results Excellent polarizing filter. Excellent build quality. Like the results. Of note, when looking through it, the effects are more subtle than other polarizing filters (It does not turn the sky super-dark blue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great CPL I bought this for a new wide-angle lens. It does a great job of bringing out colors and making clouds pop without much color-shifting. The construction is great as well with a very smooth and precise movement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Time User of B+W I have just purchased this filter and cannot accurately compare it to the Hoya filters I have used in the past. It is very well made and I like the fact that does not spin as easily as the Hoya.
