B+W F-Pro overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 72mm F-Pro Kaesemann High Transmission Circular Polarizer MRC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

Kaesemann High Transmission Circular (HTC) polarizing filters are fitted with polarizing foils which provide 99.5% light transmission that are cemented between plano-parallel optical glass. The resulting sandwich is then precision-polished to achieve accurate plano-parallel surfaces. Finally, they are edge-sealed to protect the foil against humidity.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers further protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters.

B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.
Polarizing filters arrange, and filter directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.
Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are useful in combination with digital cameras and auto-focus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Multi-coated to prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.5% light transmission.
2 to 2.8x filter factor reduces exposure by 1 to 1.5 stops.
Constructed from Schott glass for optical clarity.
F-Pro brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength.
Plastic case for storage and transport.

    B+W F-Pro reviews

72mm F-Pro Kaesemann High Transmission Circular Polarizer MRC Filter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality A Circular Polarizer is essential for my walk-around & travel lens on those bright and sunny days when glare can bleach out the contrast and color of a scene or subject. I've been consistently pleased with both B+W and Hoya filters. Everyone has an opinion, but I prefer Multi-Coated filters which tend to allow higher percentages of light to reach your sensor and are easier to keep clean. Don't defeat your fast lens or make a slow lens even slower by using a CP with low % light transmission. Also, get a filter than comes with a case or make sure you have a filter case to safely store your filter if conditions change and you need to remove it from your lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Great product. You lose only a little in light transmission. There is one thing to think about. I was photographing Snoqualmie Falls (just outside of Seattle) and, in this particular case, it would have been better to have a darker polarizer as I was trying to get the water more dream like. I ultimately solved the problem with my Nikon D810 by changing the ISO to -1.0 and closing the aperture down to f/16. Refer to the attached image.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb build and performance Those who enjoy landscape or street photography will find a polarizer an indespensable item for reducing reflection and increasing image contrast saturation. This filter uses Kaesemann edge bonding to achieve a higher 'stretching' of the polarization foil--resulting in a higher effective light transmission and reduced f-stop reduction. The body is brass--better fit and reduced binding of the threads. A 'must have' for any active photographer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Transmission is a Nice improvement Same high quality as my other Kaesemann polarizers but lets through quite a bit more light. I'm very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from B+W is the top choice I always go to B+W filters as my first choice. You get what you pay for. Some people buy cheap, junk filters. This person is not one of those people.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Filter But Difficult To Clean I have been able to shoot some amazing pro photographs with this B+W polarizer and rate it very high. As the saying goes, don't knock it till' you try it................however it does tend to give me a headache when I have to clean it and it seems like a real time consuming hassle until I am satisfied with how clean I can get it.
