B+W 122mm F-Pro Kaesemann High Transmission Circular Polarizer MRC Filter
Key Features
  • Circular Polarizer Filter
  • 99.5% Transmission, Kaesemann Foils
  • 2 to 2.8x Filter Factor, +1 to 1.5 Stops
  • Helps to Eliminate Reflections and Glare
The B+W 122mm F-Pro Kaesemann High Transmission Circular Polarizer MRC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

B+W F-Pro Overview

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

Kaesemann High Transmission Circular (HTC) polarizing filters are fitted with polarizing foils which provide 99.5% light transmission that are cemented between plano-parallel optical glass. The resulting sandwich is then precision-polished to achieve accurate plano-parallel surfaces. Finally, they are edge-sealed to protect the foil against humidity.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers further protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters.

B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are useful in combination with digital cameras and auto-focus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Multi-coated to prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.5% light transmission.
2 to 2.8x filter factor reduces exposure by 1 to 1.5 stops.
Constructed from Schott glass for optical clarity.
F-Pro brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength.
Padded pouch for storage and transport.

question

Has anyone used this Polarizer on a Canon 16-35mm lens? Any vignetting? Thanks in advance for any help!
Asked by: John H.
Dependent on the filter, you shouldn't see any vignetting.

What’s the difference between this filter and the ...

What’s the difference between this filter and the nano? Optically same? Is it just easier to clean for the nano version?
Asked by: Eugene
As described on the B&H Website: The Nano coating provides an improved beading effect with water for more efficient cleaning. The filter features a thin brass filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting while enhancing durability and jamming prevention. To further reduce the possibility of vignetting when this filter is in use, the filter ring's outside diameter is slightly larger than the actual thread size. This may prevent the use of some lens manufacturer bayonet hoods.

question

Is the High Transmission Circular Polarizer version as effective in reducing glare as the first generation model?
Asked by: David R.
I have a couple of these Kaesermann High Transmission polarizers, as well as the older (darker) conventional polarizers: apart from a small filter factor, I see no difference in polarizing performance.

question

I would like a polarizing filter for my Tamron 150 600 mm lens. The camera body is a Canon 60D. In the past with older film cameras I used linear polarizers. I like the ability to change the color saturation with a linear filter but Ive been told circular polarizers work better on cameras with AF. Can I find a circular polarizer with the same amount of control of the color saturation and contrast as with a linear polarizer? If not dont mind if I place the camera in full manual mode to get the effect I want if I go with linear. Im not in a hurry to get the shot I want.
Asked by: Blair W.
I switched to circular polarizers when I moved from film to digital years ago. They still give good saturation, but with digital cameras and post processing programs both giving you ability to tweak saturation, and nearly everything else, it isn't as important to me if it's a little less. I never noticed a difference.

question

It says +1 to 1.5 stops. Would you compensate in the same fashion as you would for a ND filter?
Asked by: Christopher O.
Sounds about right. You just have to play with it. That's the beauty of shooting digital you can figure that out and make adjustments on site. Between that and shooting raw it is pretty hard to go wrong. Not like the old film days.

question

After attaching w/ the lens, does it have a Rotating Feature to adjust the effect?
Asked by: Nikkon G.
Yes it does. See Bruce's answer below. This is an excellent filter, and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it again.
