The B+W 72mm XS-Pro Kaesemann High Transmission Circular Polarizer MRC-Nano Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

Kaesemann High Transmission Circular (HTC) polarizing filters are fitted with polarizing foils which provide 99.5% light transmission that are cemented between plano-parallel optical glass. The resulting sandwich is then precision-polished to achieve accurate plano-parallel surfaces. Finally, they are edge-sealed to protect the foil against humidity.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers further protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The Nano coating associated with XS-Pro filters provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features a thin brass rotating filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting while enhancing durability and jamming prevention. To further reduce the possibility of vignetting when this filter is in use, the filter ring's outside diameter is slightly larger than the actual thread size. This may prevent the use of some lens manufacturer bayonet hoods.

I'm looking at this filter vs the B+W MRC CPF, The prices are very similar, but the MRC non Kaesemann seems to get slightly better reviews..what does anybody suggest? I'm aware that the Kaeseman allows more light transmission..but I also want performance Thanks

What is the difference between B+W 72mm F-Pro Kaesemann HTC Circular Polarizer MRC Filter and B+W 72mm XS-Pro Kaesemann HTC Circular Polarizer MRC Filter?

The F-Pro is better for longer focal length lenses such as longer than 35mm because the rim of the filter is narrow and will fit on a long lens with a long lens hood. The XS-Pro is a thinner filter better for wide angle lenses as it will reduce the chance for vignetting but the rim goes out slightly and if used with a longer focal length lens such as longer than 35mm it might interfere with the narrow lens hood. The XS-Pro does not interfere with lens hoods of very wide lenses because those lens hoods open wide and allow the XS-Pro filter to be used with no issue.

How does this CP compare to the 72mm Carl Zeiss T* CP Filter? It will mostly be used on a Sony Distagon FE 35mm f1.4. Any preferable choice?

Personally I have not used Carl Zeiss 72mm CPL, your lens does support 72mm diameter filters.I liked B+W for its build, color enhancement, glare and reflection eliminations. Definitely I would recommend B+W to anyone starting with CPL.

Does anyone have experience with both this new filter and the previous non-HTC version? (B&H # BWKCPXSP72 MFR # 66-1066399)I am wondering what the real-world difference in light transmission is... B&H says the new one has a filter factor of 1-1.5, while the non-HTC version (still XS-Pro Kaesemann) is advertised as 1.3 - sounds the same to me!Has anyone observed the difference in camera settings with and without this HTC filter to get the same exposure? Thanks!

Zachary, I do not find much difference in settings, but do find a big difference in picture quality. Used this filter in Brooks Pond in Newfoundland this fall and the performance in very difficult lighting conditions was outstanding. Was shooting Canon 35mm f/1.4 L on a 6D body. The combination of lens and filter produced some excellent images.
