Sony CATPS1099ESD Reviews

Catalyst Production Suite (Download) is rated 1.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time if you are not a Vegas expert Bought this instead of all the third party softwares I tried to import Sony's MXF Files into a NLE timeline. Sony wrote it could do easy edits which could import to AVID, FCP etc. Well good luck because there were no tutorials available anywhere. I talked to Sony reps and they finally admitted there is no help for anyone who purchased the products and is not already up to speed on Vegas. And there were no plans in the future for any educational help. Well at least I can deduct the cost from my 2015 taxes. Incidentally, FCP X 10.2.2 imports Sony MXF Files natively now. So buyer beware, if you know Vegas you can navigate the Catalyst programs but if you know Vegas why would you buy it in the first place. Vegas has many more tools available then this interim software. Another Sony mysterious marketing snafu.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A Definite Don't Buy. Catalyst Prepare is a definite DON'T BUY. The product is very buggy... if it works at all. My basic need is only transcoding XAVC-S files from a Sony 4k camera. However, it can't do this basic task. If I reinstall the program from scratch, I can get the program to recognize XAVC-S files and export them (very slow). However, once I navigate out of the original folder, even if I come back to the same files that worked, the Export button is grayed-out, never to return. This is the same for any XAVC-S files, even from Sony Cameras, on both external and internal drives. Reinstalling gives me another shot at an export (sometimes), and then it goes back to the same behavior. I have been working with Sony support for months, even installing the latest update with the same results. Their support takes 1 to 4 weeks to respond, even with my active ticket. The engineers don't know what the problem is. I have requested a refund several times, but their return policy applies only to unopened boxes (I ordered online). I have been using Edit Ready. It is cheaper, faster, and no problems converting the XAVC-S files. Sony needs to get out of the software business.
