    Xcellon USB-4311B reviews

    USB-4311B 4-Port Portable USB 3.1 (Gen 1) Hub (Black) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 99.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointing so far I bought this hub to hook up four external hard drives at once. I hooked everything up the first time and it worked great. That is, until I ejected a drive. I went through the normal procedure of ejecting the drive from my mac, but when I unplugged the drive from the hub, all of my drives on the hub were disconnected from the mac. I got three warnings that the disks had been improperly ejected, even though they were all still very much connected. This problem persists, so I am unable to swap out drives mid-stream, so to speak. This is limiting and unnecessary. The build quality seems fine, and as long as I don't try to swap out drives one at a time, it does its job admirably. But that ejecting problem is a deal breaker.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from CAUTION - Wiped out hard drive 1st of all, amazing customer service from Xcellon - Gradus Group. Yossi and Tom were so kind and helpful. 5 stars for them and their efforts to not only understand the problem but fix it. First bought the USB-4PPH USB 3.0 hub, and when devices were plugged into the hub, all devices (5 hard drives and card readers) disconnected and reconnected rapidly, causing Incorrect hard drive disconnets. Please properly disconnect hard drive. This device has since been discontinued. They sent me the USB-4311B to replace it and it did the same thing. However, this time it completely wiped out a 128GB thumb drive. All data is lost even after recovery attempts. Devastating to say the least. This is a worse case scenario, but it just happened. I'd say avoid it at all costs, especially if the data you could lose is important (all data matters).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Work w/Hard Drives on iMac Lots of hubs, even ones that plug in to AC outlet, won't power external hard drives on an iMac for some reason. This one does! The one thing I don't like (why I didn't give it 5 stars) is the power button is in the perfect place to push it accidentally as you're plugging or unplugging USB connectors into this hub. Yes, I've done this about 3 times and now have scotch tape over the it with a little hump right above the power button. A 5 star USB hub (demoted to 4) w/button that should be inset so it can't be pressed easily.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small but does the job! I would give it a 5 star, but the only issue I have with it is the stiffness of the cable. It tilts the hub on its side and you need to force it to stay flat on the table surface. I manage to ease the stiffness by using a hairdryer to warm the cable a bit, it was easier to manage after that. As a hub, it is great! No need for external power supply and support USB 3.0 on 4 devices at the same time!, Go get one!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor design Used it for 12 minutes and then it started to fail. The hub would disconnect from the computer on it's own. Not good for devices connected to it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from There are less expensive 4-port USB Hubs; however.... For many years, I have been purchasing 4-port USB Hubs that were a lot less expensive; however, when I plugged the mouse's Nano into one of these types of Hubs commands from the mouse would all too often go unrecognized. I've been told by computer savvy people that these types of Nanos get confused from a laptop cooling fan and other flash drives, etc. being simultaneously plugged into those types of Hubs. I have also found that the less expensive Hubs have a relatively short life span and I don't know what causes this. The cable on this Xcellon USB-4311B 4-port USB 3.1 Hub is much thicker than the bargain hubs. As the product's description suggests, it has a 3.1 functionality and many newer computers these days have one or more 3.1 ports. I really did not know how this product would perform; however, now that I've been using it for hours already, it has not missed a beat when it comes to my laptop recognizing each and every action that the wireless mouse generates. One tip that I will offer is to make certain that the blue LED light is illuminated when this Xcellon USB 3.1 Hub is in use and if it is not there is an on< >off button near the opposing end of the Hub's body. The LED light turns off automatically when the computer shuts down.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Fix Down to one usb port on the back of my iMac, I was getting tired of fishing around trying to find the port by brail and getting the connection clocked correctly when connecting a drive or a card reader. This little jewel fixed all that jazz, sitting out front and center in plain sight, Ahhh, that's better. This hub has a power indictor light (cool beans) and a power switch button that one must be careful not to touch when one doesn't want the power to shut down accidentally, perhaps a small slide switch would have ben a better design trick. As a note: I haven't used this with multiple devises connected or operating at the same time, so I don't know (at this time) how this animal would behave under those conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than any other hub Most hubs require power but this is bus powered and recognizes all drives that I've plugged in. I managed to plug this into a NAS usb port and it recognizes that also - with four drives plugged in.
