Sporting a slim design with recessed control buttons and weighing in at half a pound, the VL7e 7" LCD HDMI On-Camera Monitor from ikan features 1024 x 600 resolution with a native 16:9 aspect ratio. The monitor incorporates an HDMI input and separate HDMI output connector as well as a discrete composite video input. It features 450 cd/m² brightness and 700:1 contrast ratio for a clear image. The LCD panel provides 170° viewing area, which allows you to watch your image from off angles without significant changes to color or contrast.
Image display tools include peaking and movable 1:1 pixel, which allows you to view your image section by section without any scaling artifacts. The monitor will sense when you have flipped it upside down and will automatically flip the image to correctly orient it. The monitor also features 16:9, 4:3 framing guides, a cross hair selection, as well as a grid view, with multiple grid line selections. A 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole on the bottom of the unit allows you to mount it to optional 1/4"-20 mounting accessories, and it includes an LP-E6 type battery mounting plate that powers your monitor via the coaxial power input on the side of the monitor. The monitor incorporates a USB port that is used for firmware updates, but can also be used to power 5 volt USB devices.
The monitor features an HDMI input and HDMI output for digital signals. It also incorporates a composite video input that allows you to display analog video signals, which are often used in conjunction with FPV (first person view) video from drones and other remote devices as analog signals will display an image on a monitor in spite of more signal degradation than a digital signal will.
Equipped with Monochrome Peaking, which highlights the desired focus area in a bright, red outline. The operator adjusts the focus control until the red indicator outlines on the desired area are razor sharp, indicating optimal focus. For the best results, be sure the subject is properly exposed.
1:1 pixel-to-pixel mapping allows you to look at sections of your image without any scaling, so you can see the actual detail and not be fooled by scaling artifacts.
The VL7e allows you to overlay Use Guides, Crosshair, and Grids on the screen as a compositional aid without affecting the output signal.
The DSLR Scaling function enables users to expand their DSLR camera's HDMI video signal to fill the monitor's screen if they wish. Users may choose from one of four scaling options: Normal, 3:2, 16:9 or Full Screen.
Underscan shrinks your image to fill the entire screen, this allows you to see the edges of your footage. Traditionally consumer monitors had the image size cranked up to prevent the consumer from seeing black edges around the image. However, in a professional workflow, it is important to be able to see to the very edge of you image to make sure it is clear from unwanted intrusions, which is what the underscan function allows.
