Aputure HR672 overview

  • 1Description

With the Amaran 3-Point 2-Flood 1-Spot Daylight HR672 3-Light Kit, Aputure has brought together a trio of one of their most popular lights for location or studio work. The kit comes with 2 wireless remote controls for central command of the lights especially those situated in hard to reach places. Each light includes a multi-voltage AC adapter, 2 Sony-type batteries and chargers, a tilting stand adapter with 5/8" spigot, and both a diffusion and an orange tungsten conversion filter. It all fits in the provided kit case.

The Amaran HR672 Daylight 25° Spot and Flood 75° LED panels use 672 95+ rated LEDs to render colors with optimal precision and accuracy. The lights' 5500K color temperature means that you can easily match it with other daylight sources like HMIs and cool white fluorescents, as well as balance the unit with ambient daylight conditions. An orange conversion (3200-5500K) filter is supplied to match tungsten lights or for creative late day lighting effects.

Among the HR672's advanced features is wireless control of the light's functions and light intensity from up to 328' away thanks to 2.4 GHz FSK technology. This is an especially valuable tool for adjusting lights hung overhead or on large sets or locations. It's also great for solo shooters and multi-light setups. The included remote control has 4 discrete channels to defeat interference and 3 groups for multiple setups. The HR672 also features a stepless rear dimming dial for adjusting light output from 0 to 100%. The light panels can be powered by the included multi-voltage AC adapters or the included NP-F970 batteries using the dual rear battery slots. Four LED indicator lights on the back of the unit display the remaining battery life.

The 9.37 x 7.48 panels are only 1.26" thick and generates little heat allowing them to squeeze into places where other lights, especially incandescents, just can't go.

  • Amaran HR672S Daylight LED Spot Light

Aputure HR672 reviews

Amaran 3-Point 2-Flood 1-Spot Daylight HR672 3-Light Kit is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent value lights For the money, it's hard to do better than these lights. Excellent color rendering and light quality. Also incredibly portable: everything fits nicely into a small case and is battery powered! That said, I decided to return this kit and ended up getting a LS1. Two reasons: 1. The build quality is not there with the 672. 2. I ran into an overheating problem when using the 672 inside a softbox. It got too hot and begin to flicker after about 30 minutes. If this is not your intended use, you should not have any problems with this light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright, efficient, and versatile These lights are awesome!! The two floods light up a nice broad area with a lot of light. The spot is great for details and even rim lighting two people seared next to one another. The included remote is great! It really helps when needing to adjust one light without needing to lower the stand, make the adjustment, raise it, and tweak it to get the lighting the same. Great for outdoor use as well. The flood lights last about 45mins to an hour on 100%. Great for filming portraits, product photography, and other applications too, I'm sure. Well done, Aputure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright lights. Includes everything except the stands. I'm liking these lights. They're nice and bright. The remote works well and I can see it saving time setting things up. The batteries are included, too, so I could put them to use right away. They are built of plastic, so I'll treat them carefully, but not so much to where I think they're too fragile. The case fits everything nicely, with a little room for some extras.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great color quality and very affordable! The daylight-balanced output from these lights is excellent! Very natural and pleasing for skin tones. I recently used the 3 lights in this kit pointed through a 5' x 7' diffuser as a key light for a portrait photo shoot. Worked beautifully! The lights are made of plastic, and I feel that if I drop them they might break. But I plan to take care of them so they last me several years. Time will tell. I also wish the batteries attached with some sort of locking mechanism and not by friction. The kit is an excellent value for anyone looking for a basic starter LED package. It doesn't come with light stands, but you can get those for cheap. The carrying case includes straps on top where you can attach light stands, so that helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just What I Was Looking For After lots of research on the different types of lighting, as well as reviews on different lighting kits, I found these to be the best fit for me since they are compact, lightweight, low energy consumption, cool to the touch and have a very good color rendition. They are also relatively cheap in comparison to other LED lights that have high CRI. Given the above, these lights are great for pretty much any type of occasion. Having said that, I have no clue about battery life since I use these in my studio exclusively, so I can't vouch for that. But they are portable, and very easy to set up and take down. For low light situations, these work well as long as you don't require to light a large area. For 3 point lighting, these are perfect (even in a dark room). I'm very satisfied with them :-).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Light Kit! Love this little light kit! I was skeptical at first but after uising it I'm a believer. Sets up in minutes and great for shooting in offices where you don't have room for larger units and don't want the heat. The first thing I did was a battery life test. With the included batteries I got the following: at 100% each light ran for about 5 hours. They don't fall off as the batteries get weak, they just run until the batteries run out and then go off. At 10% each light ran all day...and I mean ALL day. The kit itself is lightweight but if you're the kind of person who takes care of their gear, you'll have no problems at all. I got the daylight balanced units and have been very satisfied. The orange filters that come with the kit work well. Not sure exactly what color temp. they are but I've had no issues with white balance indoors. Enough room in the case to add a stinger with a 4-way socket for corded use. Just add some stands and you're on your way!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible LED light kit I have researched LED lights for over 6 months, and have decided on this LED light kit from Aputure and couldn't be any happier with my decision. A buddy of mine who is an accomplished Indie filmmaker swears by this kit as well -- especially because it's easy to pack as he travels a lot on assignment. The quality of the light is excellent with a CRI of 95-plus, which is about as good as it gets to true color. CRI mean Color Rendering Index. Often times, cheap or poorly designed LED lights are less than 80 CRI and have a green or magenta cast. The lights are built well and are not very heavy. They are surprisingly light and that is important to me as I tend to shoot quickly and don't want to spend a lot of time putting up and tearing down lights. I don't work with a lighting person so this is important as I tend to do it all as a one man band. Each light is about the size of an iPad. They are plastic, but a sturdy plastic. I honestly like that as it keeps the weight down and I suspect the cost as well, so I will be sure to handle the lights with care. I really love the dimming feature and it works really well. The lights are quiet and don't create a humming noise nor do they flicker. What is impressive with this kit is it comes with a wonderful carrying bag. It's amazing (good construction) and holds all the lights plus cords and batteries perfectly. It also looks very professional. I was surprised how the kit also comes with 6 Sony batteries so you have the option of going without AC. And yes, it does come with an AC cord as well. Each light takes 2 batteries thus 6 for the kit as there are 3 lights. This is particularly impressive as the kit includes the 3 lights, 3 cords, 3 warm gels, 3 soft diffusers PLUS the 6 Sony batteries for under $. Typically there seems to be hidden costs when you add batteries -- not with this kit from Aputure. NOTE: When you use the AC cord, it actually acts like a charger for the Sony batteries, which is a big plus. I decided to not get the bi-color lights as I wanted the option to use all 672 LED bulbs which are in each light. When you go bi-color, you lose half your lights -- half of the 672 bulbs are for daylight or 56K, and the other half are for indoor lights or 32K. If I needed to warm up the light, I can simply use the supplied orange gel that fits nicely into the light, bringing the light closer to 32K. Or, just make sure you white balance properly. If there was a con, I would say that the soft diffuser filters (they come with the kit) doesn't offer a great deal of diffusion. If anything they do protect the bulbs. So, I HIGHLY recommend getting the Aputure Easy Frost Diffuser for about $. This is NOT included with the kit. It's easy to use and acts like a chimera of soft box to soften the light. It takes a minute or so to set up. I think it's a positive that one of the 3 lights is a spot light, which simply means it puts out more direct light. 2 of the lights are softer. I like to use the spot light as a key along with the Easy Frost Diffuser. For under $, I don't think there is a better kit out there for video / filmmakers. I should also mention that I sent an email to the Aputure folks inquiring about the products and their customer service has been excellent as well as B&H!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Traded Down for ARRI Kit I sold my ARRI Kit to get these. I wanted the convenience of battery operated and after a recent shoot I was on, saw the LEDs in action and liked what I saw. Convenience is off the chart - so easy to do a set up. They look good on camera too. BUT - what is with the battery power?!? Batteries seem to discharge even when the lights are turned off. Did I miss something or is there a glitch?
