It all fits in the provided kit case.

Aputure Amaran HR672S Daylight LED Spot Light

The most powerful light in the series, the Amaran HR672S Daylight LED Spot Light from Aputure is an LED panel that uses 672 95+ rated LEDs to render colors with optimal precision and accuracy. The light's 5500K color temperature means that you can easily match it with other daylight sources like HMIs and cool white fluorescents, as well balance the unit with ambient daylight conditions. An orange conversion (3200-5500K) filter is supplied to match tungsten lights or for creative late day lighting effects.

Among the R672S's advanced features is wireless control of the light's functions and light intensity from up to 328' away thanks to 2.4 GHz FSK technology. This is an especially valuable tool for adjusting lights hung overhead or on large sets or locations. It's also great for solo shooters and multi-light setups. The included remote control has 4 discrete channels to defeat interference and 3 groups for multiple setups. The HR672S produces a spot 25-degree beam angle with an impressive brightness of 18,800 lux at a distance of 1.6, and features a stepless rear dimming dial for adjusting light output from 0 to 100%. The light panel can be powered by the included multi-voltage AC adapter or the included Sony-type batteries using the dual rear battery slots. Four LED indicator lights on the back of the unit display the remaining battery life.

The 9.37 x 7.48 panel is only 1.26" thick and generates little heat, allowing it to squeeze into places where other lights, especially incandescents, just can't go. The Amaran HR672S ships with the previously mentioned multi-voltage AC adapter, 5/8" tilting mount for stand mounting, a 5/8" spigot with 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads, an orange CTO conversion filter and a diffusion filter to soften the light's output.

CRI 95+ for Accurate, Pure Light
The color-rendering index (CRI) is a quantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reproduce the colors of various objects faithfully in comparison with an ideal or natural light source. With a CRI of 95+, the HR672S ensures natural and lifelike rendering that's ideal for color-critical applications such as fashion, documentary, short films or art and textile evaluation
Impressive Output
The HR672S emits 4636.8 lumens of light - about equal to a traditional 400W incandescent light and it's flicker-free no matter at any shutter speed or FPS rate
Thin but Durable Design
The HR672S has 628 LED lamps packed into a compact design that is slightly larger than the original iPad. It's an LED light that doesn't sacrifice power for portability
328' Wireless Range
Using 2.4GHz FSK technologies, you can easily the HR672S's adjust brightness with the included wireless remote. Multiple channels and groups also ensure that several different lights can be controlled without interference from up to 328' away
Diffusion Filter
The HR672S comes a white diffusing filter to soften the light's output
Advanced Dual Power System
Two methods can be used to power the HR672S: an AC adapter or Lithium-ion batteries. Batteries can be recharged while the HR672S is being powered by an AC adapter
Slim Profile
The HR672S is only 1.26" thick - significantly thinner than many competitive LED units
Aputure Amaran AL-HR672W Daylight LED Video Light with Remote

The Amaran AL-HR672W is a daylight-balanced (5500K) LED light that delivers high color accuracy thanks to its 95+ CRI rated bulbs. The light produces a wide 75° beam angle with a brightness of 2,080 lux at a distance of 3.3', and features a step-less rear dimming dial for adjusting light output from 0 to 100%. Brightness can be also be adjusted remotely from up to 328' using an included wireless remote. The remote operates on the 2.4 GHz frequency band and uses FSK (frequency-shift keying) to ensure that several different lights can be controlled without interference.

The light panel has an 11.9" diagonal and is only around 1.25" thick. It can be powered by either an included AC adapter or a Sony L-series type batteries using the dual rear battery slots. Two batteries are included. Four LED indicator lights on the back of the unit conveniently display the remaining battery life, so you can keep an eye on when it's time to swap batteries. For mounting, the light has a 1/4"-20 threaded holes on the bottom and sides. Aputure HR672 Daylight Reviews

Good portable lights; batteries... not so much

I bought these lights in mid-2020 to live-stream a series of pandemic-related informational sessions for a sports organization. We set it up as a two person interview -- the two needed to be 6 feet/2 m apart. This light kit, with accessory softboxes, provided key, fill and highlight resulting in good color temp and fine, flicker-free images. They provided enough light that we were able to turn off the fluorescent facility lights. The stand adapters/spigots seem rugged and the remote allowed me to dim a light that was 13 ft/4m up. This is a very portable kit and (for my purposes) set up quickly. The case is useful, and with a little persuasion even accommodates the two softboxes. The diffusion filter does its job, but I have no use for the tungsten filters, so can't comment on them. B&H were able to deliver the kit the night before the first session (they--along with everything else--had been unavailable due to pandemic-related supply chain issues). (Thank you B&H!) I charged the batteries immediately. The first light charged its batteries in about 30 minutes. The second took somewhat longer. The third, however, didn't finish the charge until the next day. Although I was able to use AC power for this series, I kept trying to charge the batteries, swapping them between lights, reseating them, cleaning contacts, etc. Within a couple of weeks, I really had only one light that would work on batteries. (I don't know if the batteries are junk or the lights aren't charging them.) Unfortunately, I didn't have an option to return the kit; B&H certainly would have taken care of me. So, the kit really provided the light I needed, when I needed it... as long as AC power was available. The batteries undoubtedly represent a good portion of the kit price, so I would need to be convinced those problems are resolved before I'd buy this brand again.

I got my lights and tested them out in this small studio and it does wonders. Still running tests with sets up to make good use of them. Excited to get more lights from Aputure!

quality control issues

While the light itself works well, I had to return the first unit because the light would flash on and off, making it unreliable for video shoots. The second unit I received, one of the included batteries has a poor contact causing the light to turn on and off. The light itself works well.

Very well built for the price. Great features. Very convenient. Love these things. Highly recommended. I tried a similar GVM set of lights and it's flimsy junk with lots of meaningless frills. Sticking with Aputure for now.

Maybe it's just batteries

I bought the kit over a year ago because I needed good portable lights. For the first few months, they worked really great. Most of the time, I would run them on the batteries. But then they wouldn't turn on unless if plugged in, but the batteries wouldn't charge or stay charged. I asked for the replacement batteries, and I got nothing from B&H or Aputure, so I gave up and started using the cables. The lights are great. Very bright and powerful. I just wish they could work with the batteries.

Portable lighting at it's best

This is my second set. I also have the 2-spot, 1-Flood. I got this to have 3 and 3. Battery life is awesome, remote control very handy. Have used these to light a small auditorium for video recording. Extra light power comes when you take off the diffuser, but at a contrast cost - harder shadows. I've had the 1st set a couple of years now, and Zero problems. Easy to setup and takedown, and everything fits easily in the provided case.

question

When charging batteries on the light, and batteries reach a full charge, what happens to the LEDs on the rear of the light? Do they go off or remain on? I may have received a faulty unit. On my 528 light the 4 LEDs remain constantly illuminated once the batteries are fully charged. On the 672 I received the LEDs go dark after charging for a while.

I’m doing food/cooking photography at home - strictly amateur. I’m thinking of buying a672 and a couple of 198s. I can’t decide whether to get the 672S (spot) or 672W (wide). Any advice?
Asked by: Howard
For greater output, you may want to consider the 672S as your key light and the 672W as your fill.
