Aputure HR672 overview

  • 1Description

With the Amaran 3-Point 2-Daylight Spot, 1-Bi-Color Flood Daylight HR672 3-Light Kit, Aputure has brought together a versatile trio of lights for location or studio work. Each light comes with a wireless remote control for central command of the lights, especially those situated in hard to reach places. Each also includes a multi-voltage AC adapter, two Sony-type batteries and chargers, a tilting stand adapter with 5/8" spigot, and both a diffusion and an orange tungsten conversion filter. It all fits in the provided kit case.

The Amaran HR672 Daylight 25° Spot and Flood 75° LED panels use 672 95+ CRI-rated LEDs to render colors with optimal precision and accuracy. The lights' 5500K color temperature means that you can easily match them with other daylight sources like HMIs and cool white fluorescents, as well balance the unit with ambient daylight conditions. An orange conversion (3200-5500K) filter is supplied to match tungsten lights or for creative late day lighting effects.

Among the HR672's advanced features is wireless control of the light's functions and light intensity from up to 328' away thanks to 2.4 GHz FSK technology. This is an especially valuable tool for adjusting lights hung overhead or on large sets or locations. It's also great for solo shooters and multi-light setups. The included remote control has 4 discrete channels to defeat interference and 3 groups for multiple setups. The HR672 also features a stepless rear dimming dial for adjusting light output from 0 to 100%. The light panels can be powered by the included multi-voltage AC adapters or the included NP-F970 batteries using the dual rear battery slots. Four LED indicator lights on the back of the unit display the remaining battery life. The 9.37 x 7.48" panels are only 1.26" thick and generate little heat, allowing them to squeeze into places where other lights, especially incandescents, just can't go.

The HR672C Bi-Color LED Flood Light has the same physical specs as the daylight versions of the light along with high output and a 95+ CRI rating. The big difference however, is the light's ability be adjusted from 3200K tungsten balance to 5500K daylight balance or anywhere in between, with a simple twist of a knob instead of using filters. Like the other lights, the Amaran HR672C ships a multi-voltage AC adapter, 5/8" tilting mount for stand mounting, a 5/8" spigot with 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads, and a diffusion filter to soften the light's output.

Aputure HR672 reviews

Amaran 3-Point 2-Daylight Spot, 1-Bi-Color Flood HR672 3-Light Kit is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright and Easy to Use I love LED lights, but my old (cheaper) ones were dying. The three-point light kit is great! It comes with case that fits the lights, batteries, and cables in perfectly. It even has a little extra room for another small accessory. Each light takes 2 batteries, so it comes with all 6. Word to the wise: it does NOT come with a battery charger. These are Sony NP-F960 batteries. Because I shoot on Canon, I didn't have a charger for these and had to run out last minute to pick one up. No big deal, just wanted to give you the heads up! These lights are very bright, easy to use, and fairly light weight. I was hesitant to buy them because of the upfront cost, but a coworker insisted. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little package. I used these for an interview and a few simple scenes this last week. All I can say is they are awesome for what they are. Bring a decent amount of light to a scene and are easy to manipulate. I purchased a softbox on @ for $, which wasn't great but def an upgrade for diffusing direct lighting. The spots can be, well spotty, but a little opal or the softbox helps a ton. The spread is there on the wide, but with it being a bi-color, you need to get close to your subject making it a harder light. The wide is great as a fill though.I don't know that I'll use the bi-color as much as I thought I would, but it's a nice thing to have. The package is pretty rad. I was sold on this kit once I saw the size and the fact that it came with a carrying case. Silly, maybe, but when you are dealing with plastic LED panels this is a big plus. I didn't want to drop another $ on a pelican. It's no Pelican, don't get me wrong, but it does a good job of padding the lights and holds all the accessories as well. These are plastic, so care and caution are a must. As long as I treat them with a bit of caution I think these will last me many years. Oh, also, the color value is insane for this price point! Tested in store and they were spot on!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good value for the money I already logged in about 10 hours total usage during the last couple of months. Performs well. Some notes: 1. The bi-color unite has 2 sets of intermixed LEDs for each color, so you get the required output color by using a knob to control the relative output of the LED sets. Only at 4500 Deg K the 2 LED sets are at full power and you do get the full light output. As you go to one of the extreme colors, the overall light output from the unit falls off gradually toward the 50%. 2. The units are cooled by a natural convection. Absolutely quiet, but you need to keep the units vertically for a proper natural air flow. I tested the units by laying them horizontally on a box (facing up), and after 30 minutes of operation (room temp at 23 deg C) they started to go through a thermal cut-off cycle. 3. Battery connection on the units are of medium quality - one unit already exhibits an intermitted connection if you shake it gently, as if you hold it by hand and move it up and down trying to find the best illumination angle to your subject. 4. I doubt that the plastic body will hold if someone bumps into it while the unit is on a stand using the 1/4 connection. It is fairly heavy with the 2 mounted batteries. 5. The battery are charged by the light panel itself, even when it is off. However, the charging circuitry is very basic, and a full charge takes about 7 full hours. Overall, the units do their job and give out decent light. For occasional use I think they are great, and I would buy them again. Considering the price, it is a very good buy. P.S. For a portrait work, the spot units are too harsh. Use an umbrella or a light box.
