ASUS PB258Q overview

  • 1Description

The PB258Q 25" Widescreen LED Backlit WQHD Monitor from ASUS features an IPS LED-backlit panel with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a resolution of 2560 x 1440 WQHD. This monitor supports 178° vertical and horizontal viewing angles, thereby minimizing onscreen color shift even when viewed from extreme angles. Additionally, the stand allows for tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustments of the display. The stand is removable, giving you the option of mounting the monitor on a wall via the VESA mount. The PB258Q's edge-to-edge frameless design is suitable for seamless multi-display setups.

On the back of the monitor you will find various ports: HDMI/MHL2.0, DisplayPort1.2, Dual-link DVI for native WQHD, and Sub-D for full HD 1080p content transmission. Alongside the video connectors you will find one 3.5mm audio input and one 3.5mm headphone jack. The 3.5mm audio input works in conjunction with the built-in dual 2.5W stereo speakers.

The PB258Q features ASUS flicker-free and low blue light technologies to reduce instances of eyestrain and other damaging effects when spending long hours in front of a display.

See Better and Wider
The PB258Q WQHD monitor features an IPS LED-backlit panel that provides 117 pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in high quality 2560 x 1440 visuals - equaling four times the resolution of standard 720p sets. It allows users to view greater image detail and do more with an onscreen footprint larger than that of standard displays.

The screen's 117 PPI density means there are 117 RGB matrices within one inch. Generally, the more pixels a display has, the more lighting (or power) those pixels require in order to achieve the best visuals. However, with advanced LED backlighting on the PB258Q, power and energy savings are no longer compromised, while better visuals are assured.
Made for Work and Play
The ASUS PB258Q features IPS panel which provides an ultra-wide 178° viewing angle on both horizontal and vertical planes, thereby minimizing onscreen color shift even when viewed from extreme angles. With its WQHD display, you enjoy 77% more desktop space than a full HD screen to spread out your windows and palettes. It is also about 25% sharper than a generic 25" full HD display, delivering smooth visuals thanks to a 5 ms (GtG) response time. This ensures you get virtually lag-free experiences in movies and gaming, with the latter looking more vivid, with all in-game details shown in true color.
Native WQHD Content Support
The PB258Q features a host of connectivity options that include HDMI/MHL2.0, DisplayPort1.2, and dual-link DVI for native WQHD, plus D-sub for full HD 1080p content transmission. Twin built-in 2.5W speakers provide quality audio for a completely immersive home theater experience.
Flicker-Free and Low Blue Light
The PB258Q features ASUS Flicker-free and Low Blue Light technologies to reduce instances of eyestrain and other damaging effects when spending long, countless hours in front of a display.
SplendidPlus Video Intelligence Technology
The PB258Q features SplendidPlus Video Intelligence Technology that optimizes videos and images by enhancing color brightness, contrast, and sharpness. SplendidPlus features 8 preset modes - Reading, Darkroom, Scenery, Standard, Theater sRGB, Game, and Night View modes to adapt to the content being viewed on the screen.
QuickFit Virtual Scale
ASUS QuickFit Virtual Scale's onscreen alignment grid overlay also helps you align and preview actual-size photos and documents on screen prior to printing, thereby adding to the overall flexibility and productivity aspects of the PB258Q display.

    ASUS PB258Q reviews

PB258Q 25" Widescreen LED Backlit WQHD Monitor is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from as advertised, PB258Q resolution 2560 x 1440 I do coding and graphics. I'm using a reconstituted computer, running linux, with a NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M graphics card. I'm able to get 2560 x 1440 resolution via DisplayPort cable (supplied by the vendor). Documentation suggested that this resolution could be acheived by DVI connection. However, having tried various ways to get high-res via DVI, I could only get 1920 x 1080. So I'm sticking with the DisplayPort connection of course. The resolution and color values are excellent. I've only had the monitor for a couple of days - hope the performance holds up. The monitor was easy to set up and the monitor controls are intuitive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent picture quality for the price. I purchased this monitor as my primary monitor. I use this monitor for 30% gaming, 50% web browsing, and 20% for video and photo. I held off on purchasing a 1440p monitor due to concerns on gaming. Won't go into details, but suffice to say, unless you are an avid gamer and use this screen primarily for it, you won't care enough to really bother you. A lot of different image settings to choose from to fit your taste, along with various input options. One thing to note, after some research unless you use the display port connection, all other connection types will not be compatible for 1440p resolution. You will have to force this resolution either from your 3rd party graphics card, or force it by going into the dedicated Intel HD graphics settings. The maximum Hz refresh rate you can set it to is 50, possibly 55 in the Intel HD graphics settings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Monitor; useful blue-light filter & darkroom mode Well-packaged monitor, no dead pixels, looks nice at 1080p over single-link DVI, and excellent at 2560x1440 over displayport (I needed to buy an extra cable for this). I use this mostly for Lightroom photography proofing, but it's also nice to be able to rotate the monitor for document proofing or coding. The OSD menu for document sizing would probably be useful for anyone in printing / graphic design. I like the quick menu shortcuts for darkroom and blue light filter, they're handy for when you're sitting in a dark room and color accuracy isn't top priority. Extremely happy with this purchase. My first better-than 1080p monitor. 25 is a great size for this resolution.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect introduction to 1440p The display is very sharp and came with no back light bleeding or dead pixels. It's a huge upgrade coming from a 1080p monitor. Stand is very high quality and easy to adjust. Defiantly worth the additional $$ as compared to Acer's 25 1440p monitor unadjustable, cheaper stand. Colors are vivid and overall picture is great. My only nit is the white tones are a bit warm. I tried adjusting the settings but had difficulties getting to the same whites on my macbook pro retina. Not a deal breaker, and you get used to it. Great for gaming and every day use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value for the price I use this monitor for gaming, web browsing and some photo editing. I was looking for something that was on par with my fruit tablet's display, but without spending a lot. I feel like it comes pretty close, though I have to assume it is no $ aluminum and glass monitor.Pros: Great sRGB color reproduction, nice clean design, attractive thin bezels, awesome adjustable stand.Cons: Black levels are not great when the monitor is in a dark room. Also, in such cases viewing angles are limited. For example, you can see an orange-ish white glow on each side of the Windows taskbar at most angles when the room is dark. The contrast isn't great either. Maybe that's just the nature of matte monitors and I'm used to glossy. Still a giant step up from my laptop monitor's terrible cold and faded colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Monitor Great monitor, at a great B&H price. I connect this monitor to my Macbook Pro. I was wanting to get the big Apple monitor but at over a $1000 it was prohibitive, then my son pointed me to this one. He said it is the same panel that Apple uses. Put the ASUS side by side with the Apple...and outside of the difference in the cases, you would be hard pressed to see the difference! I am amazed at the brilliance and sharpness of this monitor. I can work at my desk all day with absolutely no eye strain. On video conference calls, it is crystal clear! I just watched a 4K video on the internet and the colors and clarity was stunning! As always, B&H provides great service and support when needed (seldom). They are my first stop in purchasing any cameras or computer video gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great monitor I thought the font might be to small with that resolution but it works well. Just like my apple laptop and my iPad screen. Installation is a non event. Quality and color is great as well. The monitor looks larger than expected because the frame is so narrow. Great real estate. I'm happy with it.
