Tamrac Anvil 17 Reviews

Exactly one year ago

I got this backpack as I had 2 DSLRs and I wanted to carry most of my kit in one shot. It was spacious, and the bad looked very sturdy. It was customizable and a lot of room to store all my filters, chargers, ipad etc., But the one most important part, the strap which is supposed to hold the entire load was the weak link. It came apart and thereby my entire bag fell down in the coast. For such a good build (which is why 2 stars), you have to provide extra strong belts. If there was a chance I will definitely return this product. Not worth your 100$

Excellent DSLR Backpack

I purchased this as my third Tamrac backpack. My expedition 7 has seen regular use for 12 years and it is still in perfect condition but it is larger and heavier than I need today. Last year I purchased the Tamrac Anvil 11 slim which is perfect for Mirrorless cameras but a bit tight in depth for my Nikon D850 outfit. The Anvil 17 is the same size as the Anvil 11 slim except for the depth which is perfect for my DSLR equipment. I would also note that I had a small issue with the Anvil 11 a couple of months after purchase and I called Tamra to see how I could get it repaired, they exchanged it for a new pack in very short order, no out of pocket to me. Tamrac is an Excellent company that stands behind their products and takes care of there customers with no hassles. B&H is also the Best company that I have bought camera gear from and I say this with experiences that go back over 30 years.

Not the quality I expected from Tamrac

After just over a month, one of the clear plastic pouches ripped and now I need to find a replacement before a trip at the last minute. Otherwise the build is nice and the zippers are great.

The anvil 17 is the size of an airline carry on. Can carry 2 pro size DSLR bodies. My 200-500 and an an 18-300 plus other accessories and another small Len. Carey's filters and power cords laptop and other accessories.

Lightweight and wonderful space.

Solid Tamrac Product

I have owned many Tamrac camera bags over the past 30 years. I have tried many other brands and somehow keep coming back to Tamrac. This is good camera backpack, and I agree with other reviews that I have read that state the clear pouches inside the lid of the bag failed within the first week. I ended up ripping them all out of the bag. (it was much easier than you would think to do that as well.) Beyond that design/execution flaw this bag is great, comfortable to wear when fully loaded down. I also like the number of pockets and how they are laid out = very functional design. I also use a flag bungee cord to quickly anchor to my rolling carry on bag as well. Yes, I would recommend this product.

question

How well does the Anvil 17 work as a carry-on airline bag? I am concerned both about size for under seat or overhead bin stowage and weight which local Asian airlines severely limit.
Asked by: Dale
I have been using mine now for a year or so and have no issues with storage under or over seat in the US. The only thing you need to be careful of is the max weight for a carry on in Europe as you do with any carry on over there. It is a great back and I love it and am happy that I got it.

question

Will this hold a D7200 with a 150-600 lens?
Asked by: Sue G.
I have used it with a D800 and 80-400 lens with no problem, I even have about 4 inches of room available. So check the length of your 150-600 vs 80-400.Good luck!
