This B&H Kit combines the Universal Audio Apollo 8 QUAD Audio Interface with the Dangerous Music D-Box Summing Monitor Mixer and a D-Sub DB25 to 8x TRS multi-track cable to create an all-in-one mixing and monitoring package for project and professional recording studios. The Apollo 8 is the latest generation 18 x 24 Thunderbolt-ready computer audio interface that improves upon the original Apollo with better total harmonic distortion, dynamic range, and signal-to-noise specifications. Delivering the sound, feel and flow of analog recording, the interface combines high-resolution analog design with on-board UAD Processing, allowing music producers and performers to track audio through a range of classic UAD analog emulation plug-ins in real-time. Designed to perform a central role in a modern Mac-based studio, the unit delivers 24-bit/192 kHz resolution, which ultimately translates into high-resolution analog audio. The interface features four premium microphone preamps with Unison integration for UAD preamp and pedal plug-ins, which allows true-to-life performance including impedance matching, gain staging, and component-level circuit behaviors.

The D-Box summing monitor mixer and D/A converter is a 1U rack mountable device designed by mastering engineers to integrate the functions of a summing mixer, a monitoring system with talkback, and a dedicated digital to analog converter. For summing, the back of the unit features a 25-pin D-sub connector for feeding eight channels of analog inputs into the mixer. For monitoring, the unit features two stereo pairs of balanced XLR outputs for your monitors and alternate reference speakers. An alt speaker button on the front of the unit allows you to toggle between the two outputs, and an array of input selection buttons allows you to choose from the mixer sum, a stereo pair of analog inputs, or one of two AES/SPDIF lockable digital inputs from a source such as a DAW or CD player. The included D-Sub DB25 multi-track cable connects the 8 TRS analog outputs of the Apollo 8 to the DB25 inputs of the D-box for analog summing. Each TRS connector is individually shielded and jacketed pairs are clearly numbered for easy identification.

    While the converters are open and transparent, the unit can quickly deliver a wide range of classic analog tones and color via its built-in UAD Processing. The on-board QUAD Core processing provides up to a sub-2 millisecond latency that allows for quickly monitoring, auditioning, and "printing" audio using classic analog emulations from Ampex, Lexicon, Manley, Neve, Roland, SSL, Studer, and more.

    Apollo's Core Audio and Windows drivers ensure compatibility with all major DAWs, including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase, Live, and more. The included Console 2.0 application provides control and recall of all interface and UAD plug-in settings including channel strip presets, drag & drop functionality, and dynamically resizable windows.

    The Apollo 8 offers a comprehensive monitor solution with dedicated front panel controls for Alt Speakers, Dim, and Mono functions, as well as input and output metering capabilities. A total of four Apollos and six total UAD-2 devices can be combined via the included Apollo Expanded software, allowing Thunderbolt users the ability to expand their I/O and DSP. The Apollo 8 ships with a power supply, IEC power cord, and four rack-mount screws.

  • Dangerous Music D-Box Summing Monitor Mixer and D/A Converter

    The Dangerous Music D-Box Summing Monitor Mixer and D/A Converter is a 1U rack mountable device designed by mastering engineers to integrate the functions of a summing mixer, a monitoring system with talkback, and a dedicated digital to analog converter.

    For summing, the back of the unit features a 25-pin D-sub connector for feeding eight channels of analog inputs into the mixer. You adjust the panning position and level of each channel within your Digital to Audio Workstation and then the overall level of the stereo analog sum using the unit's sum output volume control. You can then send the sum through a balanced XLR pair of stereo sum outputs back through your analog to digital converter and into your DAW.

    For monitoring, the unit features two stereo pairs of balanced XLR outputs for your monitors and alternate reference speakers. An alt speaker button on the front of the unit allows you to toggle between the two outputs, and an array of input selection buttons allows you to choose from the mixer sum, a stereo pair of analog inputs, or one of two AES/SPDIF lockable digital inputs from a source such as a DAW or CD player.

    A mono function button combines the left and right channels in the monitors and a left and right panning knob allows you to reposition the mix in stereophonic space. Eight LEDS on the front of the unit indicate the presence of your incoming signal. A volume control allows you to adjust the overall output signal to your monitors or alternate reference speakers.

    The device includes two independent 20W headphone amplifiers with 1/4" TRS jacks and independent volume controls. A talkback microphone, talkback remote jack for footswitch operation, and front panel talk back function button enable you to address the artist through their headphones. A DC input on the back of the unit and external power supply allow the unit to operate at a cooler temperature. The device is meticulously hand-built in the USA to mastering standards.
