This 4 x 4" Glass Filter Set from Cavision includes four 101.6 x 101.6mm filters that can be used to provide various enhancements to your images. They are each 4mm thick, and depending on the filter holder system used, can be applied individually or in combination with each other.

The Cavision 4 x 4" Linear Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. This results in a noticeable increase in the saturation of skies and foliage, as well as clearer imagery when photographing in hazy conditions. A linear polarizer differs from a circular polarizer in that it does not support use of autofocus or auto exposure camera functions. For these reasons, this filter is best suited for use with manual cameras, such as view cameras, that are not dependent on internal electronic mechanisms to determine focus or metering settings.

The Cavision 4 x 4" Blue 0.3 Graduated Filter can be used to add blue to a hazy or colorless sky. When used instead of a polarizer filter to enhance the sky within an image, the desired effect can be applied only to the sky, without any unwanted polarization or additional contrast to any part of the image. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. This filter has up to a 0.3 density and reduces light from entering a lens by up to one stop.

The Cavision 4 x 4" Orange 0.3 Graduated Filter can be used to add orange to a hazy or colorless sky. When used to enhance the sky within an image, the desired effect can be applied only to the sky, without any unwanted changes to any other part of the image. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. This filter has up to a 0.3 density and reduces light from entering a lens by up to one stop.

  • 4 x 4" Linear Polarizer Filter

    The Cavision 4 x 4" Linear Polarizer Filter is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 3mm-thick, 4 x 4" rectangular filters. It helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

    A linear polarizer differs from a circular polarizer in that it does not contain an additional quarter wave plane. The addition of a quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, in-camera auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions. This filter is recommended when not using in-camera exposure metering or autofocus.
