FUJIFILM XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR Overview

By B&H Photo's

A fast telephoto prime for FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras, the XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR is a 137mm-equivalent lens featuring a bright f/2 maximum aperture for low-light performance and extensive control over focus placement. The optical design incorporates three extra-low dispersion elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing and a Super EBC coating has been applied to control flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity. Complementing the optical assets, this lens also features a weather-sealed design for working in harsh environments and has a Quad Linear Motor for quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance.

Prime telephoto lens is designed for APS-C-format Fujifilm X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 137mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also offers greater control over depth of field.
Three extra-low dispersion elements reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to provide greater clarity and color accuracy.
Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
A Quad Linear Motor autofocus system delivers smooth, near-silent performance that is especially beneficial to video applications and when working in noise-sensitive areas.
The lens body incorporates seven distinct weather seals to protect against dust and moisture, and to enable worry-free use in inclement conditions and freezing temperatures as low as 14°F.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

This is my favorite portrait lens. I don't have the 56mm f/1.2 (I want to get that one too/is the next lens on my wishlist) but this one is freaking awesome

Sharpest Fujifilm Lens I have ever owned

I have had this lens only a couple of weeks, but am so pleased with it. Tack sharp images, great bokeh and color rendition. Very happy I made the investment!

For stationary subjects and steady hands.

When this lens works, it works amazingly well. I must admit though, I get a lot of soft images with this. I try so hard to be steady but can't seem to nail focus with this. I just did a photo shoot with a toddler under a cloudy fall sky and my images were not sharp. Under sunny skies, shooting stationary landscape items like flowers, this lens is phenomenal. I especially love it for macro-type shots. I used it in Hawaii and got some beautiful flora images with creamy bokeh in the background. However, photographing portraits, it's very hit or miss, especially if people are walking or slightly moving. Heck even sometimes when they are still, I'll still get a portion that aren't crisp. Even with my speed up and even when I have a strong stance trying to have a steady hand. Wish I had more success considering the price of this glass!

Fabulous lens, with a caveat.

I bought this FABULOUS lens to take pictures of my grandchildren without being intrusive. The lens lives up to all my expectations, but, NOT great for usual indoor lighting. GREAT outdoors. Tack sharp, quiet, almost instant autofocus, and yes, it "clunks," until the camera is turned on. For indoor photography, the 16 mm, f 1.4 lens, is SUPERB.

Comparable to Canon EF 135mm f2, but different

Ordered in Adelaide, Australia, and travelled via Melbourne during lock down. Arrived within a week in first class condition - as always, exemplary service from B&H. The reviews for this lens are all true. It is stunningly sharp, and is the first telephoto lens that I feel does not need a dash of fill-in-flash to bring out its best qualities. I was astounded how sharp hand held 1/80th sec f2 ISO400 shots were, and how magical the rendering was. I have the Canon f2 135mm, and this Fuji lens is marginally sharper, but you don't get the same isolation at full aperture on the Fuji as you do on the Canon. In absolute terms, the Canon is better because of this, but in terms of weight and ease of use the Fuji wins hands down (IMHO). Build quality is exceptional, focus is rapid and 75% accurate when using a small centre spot focal point and readjusting the frame post focus, so 75% isn't bad and is similar to the Canon 135mm, but way better than the Canon 50 f1.2 or 85mm f1.2, which are far more hit and miss (at full aperture). Optically the Canon EF 85mm is as good as the Fuji 90mm, but the Canon EF 50mm f1.2 can't touch the Fuji for sharpness. This lens is excellent for portraits, and also for flower and other natural history applications. It also makes an interesting landscape lens when used to isolate details or compress interesting land- or seascapes. The optical quality and lightweight utility of this lens is simply amazing for the price. I prefer not to have OIS as this compromises optical quality, so no complaints from me on that one. The Fuji 90mm with the 10-24mm and two X-Tn bodies make a brilliant lightish weight travel kit to cover, landscape, portraits and nature. I went through a troublesome decision process over whether to go for the Fuji 50-140mm f2.8 or the 90mm f2.0. Optical quality, closer focus, and lighter weight won the day for the 90mm. Also I have the superb Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS MkII, which is a better lens (full frame) so pointless duplicating this. I also have the f4.0 variant of this zoom, and optically the 90mm wins by a significant margin. Also, the Fuji F2.8 is the equivalent of F4.0 anyway when used on an APS-C sized sensor. In the end it was a no brainer. This lens appears to me to be sharp at every aperture and across the frame and at near and far focus..........I look forward to using it for some serious projects in the near future. PS: I may be saying some nice things about Canon lenses, but the weight/size of my Canon kit means it gets far less use these days. The light weight and optical quality of Fuji X series kit means this is my go to system 95% of the time. Its far more convenient and fun to use. Honestly, 36 inch prints, even from the X-T1 can be show stoppers. I have some on my wall and they are as good as similar sized prints from my Canon and from Ebony 5x4 inch large format Velvia prints - all sit my wall. The Fuji prints probably give me most pleasure. I guess that's all that really matters at the end of the day.

My Favorite Lens

This lens is incredibly sharp. I like that it has a bit of telephoto compression. I have had this lens for nearly two years and it is the lens most frequently on my camera. My most photographed subjects are people and flowers and this lens is great for both of those. If you have a darker room and you're trying to get good pictures from a bit of a distance that f2.0 aperture is quite helpful. I have the 56mm 1.2 and before I got this lens it was always on my camera. Now I barely use it and I think the closer focusing of this lens as well as the larger amount of telephoto compression is the reason for that. It is also a great lens, but I think this one is just a bit better.
