CineRAID CR-H458 overview

  • 1Description

The CineRAID USB 3.0 / eSATA 4-Bay RAID Enclosure features four tool-less drive bays that can each hold an optional 2.5" or 3.5" hard drive up to 6TB in capacity. Once drives are installed, you hardware configure these drives via a dipswitch or GUI software into RAID 0, 1, 10, 3, or 5 mode. This software program also monitors your drives and alerts you in the event of a failure. With the hot swap feature, you can replace a drive without powering down the enclosure to begin the rebuild process immediately.

CineRAID has built this RAID enclosure with USB 3.0 and eSATA ports to move data across a Windows, Mac, or Linux system. In addition, it allows you to work with multi-stream standard definition as well as compressed HD workflows. Included along with the compact enclosure are a USB 3.0 cable, eSATA cable, and a power adapter with cord.

Easy RAID Setup / Management

    CineRAID CR-H458 reviews

    USB 3.1 Gen 1 / eSATA 4-Bay RAID Enclosure is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice little machine ok quality build. It is hardware raid. Don't even need software to run it. Dip Switch pins will program the raid. So far running quiet and fast enough at raid 5 on esata. Haven't owned it long enough to answer reliability. PC or MAC

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decent USB 3.0 storage solution Been using this for my offsite backup, I have 3x WD SE drives setup as RAID 5 and insert my 4th drive to copy data over to the other drives. The unit has jumper settings to setup the RAID, but I had a bit of trouble setting it up at first, but calling tech support had me use the management software which allowed me to build the RAID how I wanted. Note, the single drive needed to be setup as RAID 0 for it to be seen together with the RAID 5 which I thought is a bit confusing but it worked and has been working with no issues. The tool less trays makes it easy to add any drive to the unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great with my AJA Ki pro Ultra I purchased this unit after I saw it at the AJA in NAB. It has been working great with my Kipro ultra connected by eSATA. Easy setup. I love love love the tool-less tray design, allows me to change drives on the unit with ease. Also, this thing is super quiet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A perfect fin in my small studio After years of bouncing files from one hard drive to another to, somewhat, protect my critical data in my edit room, CineRAID was the perfect affordable fit into my small one-man-band video production studio. It was about the easiest install that I have ever made... a well thought out interface with four enclosures... for my particular system, I'm using four 4TB drives and they quickly snapped into the mounting brackets to slide into the enclosure. This was my first use of a RAID system and once I figured out to go to Disk Management and format the drives so that the Windows Explorer recognized the RAID system, I was up and running. I was three months into a project when I bought the Cine RAID system. On the first night I shut the system down, knowing that I had an ongoing redundant backup of all my work, I walked away with peace of mind... and have felt that way ever since.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from ok but slow It is a nice chassis, but the best rate was 220MB/s from an SSD that can sustain over 500MB/s.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing This unit was easy to set up, and worked like a charm for one week as I was setting up a new computer with downloaded software stored on one of the four sata drives I had installed in this unit. I was not using it in Raid mode, but just as a cabinet to hold my drives that I wished to access data from. When my install was completed, I moved both the computer and this Raid enclosure to my work room, attached my printer, scanner, and digital pad, and then found that all 4 hard drives were no longer readable, with error message Location is not available. M:// is not accessible. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable. If this was only one drive I would be suspicious that perhaps it had failed but for all 4 to fail simultaneously, it isn't reasonable. I tried attaching to a different computer with fewer USB items connected, but had the same error message. .I am sending it back to B & H, and looking for another solution to my problem as I require reliable access to my hard drives.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Certainly OK I ran well, transfers were adequate with USB 3. But mine died after 3 years. So for the money its ok if I can slip my existing drives into the new box and find everything as it was.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unreliable I attached 4 of my sata drives to this unit, to hold drives that did not fit into my new computer. One week later, all 4 drives would not start up. I took the drives out, thinking I could just put them into another case or computer to use, but found that CineRaid had trashed all 4 drives in one fell swoop. The tech support has not been able to restore my hard drives, so I am looking at a minumum of $400 to restore them.
