Create beautiful lighting and take advantage of your shoe-mounted flashes' true potential with the FreeWave Aviator Wireless Flash Trigger System from Vello, which is available here in a B&H Kit with one transceiver & two receivers. Dedicated to Canon's exceptional E-TTL II system, users will have full functionality with modern automatic flash settings. Operation is reliable as well due to the Aviator's use of a 2.4 GHz radio frequency to provide a range of up to 300' without the need for line-of-sight.

The Aviator Transceiver has access to 4 channels when syncing with the included receivers for avoiding interference with other users and the wireless technology set up in your venue. Users will also have access to 3 different groups with which to organize their flashes (A, B, or C). The group controls of the Aviator allow for separate adjustment of the flashes in either TTL or manual modes as well as the ability to set group ratios in A:B or A:BC configurations.

Setting up the Aviator Transceiver as a master is simple because it easily slides into your camera's hot shoe to receive TTL information and also offers top hot shoe for adding another flash to the mix. For ease of use, all information is accessible on the Transceiver via a backlit LCD screen and both have a standard 3.5mm sync port, while the transceiver adds a threaded PC sync port for more versatility. Also, they have high-speed sync and a mini-USB port for firmware updates. And, each transceiver or receiver runs on two easy-to-find AA batteries.

Note: Only flash units using E-TTL II are compatible; older flash units using E-TTL (original ver.) are not supported in TTL mode

FreeWave Aviator Wireless Flash Trigger Transceiver & Two Receiver Kit for Canon is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Small Problem and Big I took a chance on these units even though they are newly released and there were no prior reviews of them because they seemed to Do-It-All. They support TTL with 3-stop remote adjustment and they support manual power adjustment (8-stop spread from 1/1 to 1/128) and they support high-speed sync and they can do all this across 3 independent groups. Sounds great but. My first problem is that I want to attach the Vello transceiver to a cold-shoe bracket and then connect it to my camera's sync port with a short cable. This is so I can put an additional flash into the camera hot-shoe without needing to stack it on top of the transceiver, which seems top-heavy and awkward. I have 3 different 3.5mm-to-PC cords but the problem is that neither the camera nor the transceiver can see each other through the sync-cord wire. It is acting as if the transceiver sync-port is unidirectional and ONLY supports a flash attachment, not a camera attachment. This is annoying, but I can forgive this because it is not that big a deal for me. The really Big Deal is that the receivers will not adjust my older 580EX flash unit, which I believe it should as an ETTL device that is theoretically supported. I have both a 580EX-II and a 580EX and the newer EX-II model works exactly as expected, but the slightly older EX will fire, but cannot be remotely adjusted from the transceiver in any way when using either of the two receivers that I have as part of this kit. I have contacted Vello support about this and we will see if they can make me happy. If so, then I will gladly update this review. For now though I am both annoyed and disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FreeWave Aviator Set by Vello Vello FreeWave Aviator Wireless Flash Trigger Transceiver & Two Receiver Kit for Canon review by Steve Baslow In the Box; Kit Items FreeWave Aviator Wireless Flash Trigger Transceiver for Canon Lanyard 3.5mm to 3.5mm Cable 3.5mm to 1/4 Mono-Plug Cable Hot Shoe Protector 2 x AA Batteries Limited 1-Year Warranty 2 x FreeWave Aviator Wireless Flash Trigger Receiver for Canon Lanyard 3.5mm to 3.5mm Cable 3.5mm to 1/4 Mono-Plug Cable Hot Shoe Protector Adhesive-Backed Accessory Shoe Hot Shoe Locknut 2 x AA Batteries Limited 1-Year Warranty What I did with it; Lighting setup for a model session that was so simple and straightforward that instructions were not needed. Set the Group letter A,B,C , or Auto on the receiver. Then set the Channel on each unit to match either Auto, 1, 2, or 3. power on both units and your ready to go. The day of the shoot I used 2 flashes and the sun as a hair light from a window. I made 2 power adjustments on the Transceiver +/- section that corresponds to the flash it is assigned to and it worked perfect the first time. ------------------------------------------------ Macro Photography is one of my favorite things to so. I am extremely deep into photo stacking and use Zerene Photo Stacker. Well if any of you know the challenges to macro photography is that the higher the magnification the less light available and it becomes a challenge. With a flash on a free stand unit with a reflector on the opposite side of the macro subject for fill light it worked perfectly without a flaw. I was able to reduce the light volume to a very soft flash and gain some extraordinary macro shots that had such even lighting I was asked by a couple of friends why my macro pictures look so good? Conclusion; The FREEWAVE AVIATOR transceiver and receiver from Vello is slick. It is exactly a perfect lighting accessory for both amateur and professional photographer. This AVIATOR transceiver and receiver from Vello makes all the other remote wireless units I have used seem a bit complicated compared to the ease of the FreeWave Aviator in a number of times testing and using in real life situations. When I set up the Aviator Transceiver as the master it slid into my camera's hot shoe to receive TTL information and has a hot shoe on top for adding another flash to your camera to do direct frontal flash. The large LCD Screen on the unit makes it easy to read and operate. I did not need it to be hard wired to use but if you prefer to be wired the unit offers a standard 3.5mm sync port, while the transceiver adds a threaded PC sync port for more ease of use. The E-TTL / E-TTL II system is fully compatible with modern automatic modern flash units. Reliable 2.4 GHz radio frequency give a range of up to 300' without it being in direct sight
