    Meade 608001 Reviews

Laser Collimator (1.25"/2") is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Finally spot on star images! My recent purchase of a Meade Laser Collimator w/2 adapter from you is a 'keeper'! I have a home made 12 1/2 dia. f3.6 Newtonian and believe me, with that short focal length this scope needs be 'spot on' to see crisp star images. This Collimator #608001 does that deed well. Key here was first aligning the secondary mirror _then_ aligning the primary. I did it twice after twisting the scope around on it's German Eq. mount to see if I had any mirror shift? I doesn't and that was good to know! Now I see I have some simple further improvements I didn't know I needed to make. Hmmm... Such it is in the life as an Amateur Telescope Maker!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Feel Free To Collimate... So far so good. Purchased to collimate a 10 Newtonian reflector telescope. Easy to use and I can collimate in about 5 minutes. The laser did not require adjustment out of the box. The only issue is that the turn-on dial for the laser is a bit stiff so you need to remember to turn the laser on before turning your set screws for final position or it will spin on you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent piece of kit It's very easy to use to collimate both Primary and Secondary mirrors. It's made of high quality materials, and feels good in the hand. It comes with an adapter. I have to collimate my Newtonian more often than I would like. With this, I can do both the primary and secondary in under three minutes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get it. Get it. I gave it a 5 based on ease of use and packaging. I collimated my 10 Dob that evening following the instructions and a little help from YT. I aligned the spider mirror then followed with the main. It took a few tries to get as exact as I could but for the first time. I used the 2 adapter, adjusted the power level and turned the viewer to the rear and it was as easy as 1,2,3. It will be easy to use at remote sites.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice - just not necessary. I collimated my scope manually because this didn't come in my original shipment - it was a day late. I used it to confirm my first setup, and it was spot on. So - is it necessary? Not for my 8 Dobsonian. But - next time I collimate, I know it will be even easier. It seems like a good product. So - 4 stars just because it isn't as critical a piece of gear as folks make it out to be. Get one anyway - just to be sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent. Right on target This is a very good product. It's made well and the laser alignment is spot on. It has many uses, mostly for reflectors, but the collimating of refractors and diagonals can be checked also. It is a good price. There are some less expensive but I wouldn't chance getting one with an unaligned laser. This, I feel is the best product at a reasonable price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quality of laser point could be better... The point/dot/circle of light of the laser was partially obstructed by the bullseye/crosshairs piece. Made the collimation process somewhat hit or miss. I'll just stick to a collimation cap and star test method from now on. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish I had this product sooner Have been using my Meade 826 Newtonian since 1983. This makes culmination soooo much easier! Within a minute I have perfect alignment of my mirrors. I wish I had this product back in 1983!
