The 150 x 170mm SW150 Hard Edge Graduated 81A Filter from LEE Filters is compatible with a LEE Filters SW150-series filter holder. This filter can be applied to create a warm cast over specific areas of an image, such as a hazy or colorless sky, while allowing for a normal, unaffected exposure in the other regions of the image. This effect can be obtained under daylight when this filter is used on a film camera system with daylight film installed, or on a digital camera system with its daylight white balance setting selected. This filter's partial coloration corresponds to an ability to partially reduce 3400K color temperatures to 3200K, which reflects a mired shift value of up to +18 that can be applied to other starting color temperatures as well. This feature is most pronounced at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a hard-edged line of transition between the colored and clear areas.
This filter is non-coated and is constructed from optical-quality resin for clarity as well as color fidelity. Where its coloration is most pronounced, the LEE Filters 150 x 170mm SW150 Hard Edge Graduated 81A Filter has a 0.1 density with a 1.25x filter factor that darkens the corresponding area of an image by 0.3 stops. This reduction in exposure can be compensated for by adjusting the aperture setting of the lens it is placed on, or the shutter speed of the camera being used.
The greater the color temperatures they can potentially reduce to 3200K, light balancing filters are considered to be progressively stronger in their effect when used to add warmth to a daylight image.
