    Sony PSZHB1T/SL reviews

1TB Professional External USB Rugged Hard Drive with Thunderbolt is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior to Lacie rugged I have the 1tb and 2tb models and both exceed every metric for what I demand of a field driven. They come with Thunderbolt and USB cables and a hard plastic case. Lacie spends more on marketing their Rugged line than Sony does; if that ever changes Sony will grab a bigger piece of the portable HD drive market with this great product. If you require Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 in the field, or anywhere for that matter, this is the one to buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive... As in, impressive packaging. Also impressive shock insulation wrapped around the drive. Comes with cables (Thunderbolt & USB). Bus powered, so no wall wart and no DC in. Bought two - one for me, one for wife. Works on wife's older MacBook Air with TB, and my older MacBook Pro and recent iMac with USB. My drive is serving as a bridge between iMac and MBP for large Lightroom catalogs. Chose Thunderbolt to future-proof against the loss of firewire ports in follow-on computers. 5 stars for presentation and ease of use. 2 for 2, they worked right out of the box, just as we have come to expect from modern drives. How can you award stars for longevity? If they're still working in five or ten years, then Hallelujah!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Cost/Benefit I am an enthusiast musician/sound engineer and I record with my band so I needed an HDD than could complement my Macs built-in limited 500GB HDD so, after deep look into the available Thunderbolt HDD options, I just found this unit as the best cost/benefit in therms of capacity, speed transfer, port types, and ruggedized case. It is easy to carry on as it is not too big sized, no additional power supplies needed, its powered from Thunderbolt or USB cable (both included) and It is truly PnP as it comes formated in exFat so you can use in Windows or Mac

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow This thing is amazingly fast and yet pretty affordable. I like also that beside thunderbolt, it has a USB 3.0. The big bonus is that it comes with it's own little breaker case!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thunderbolt review The drive has worked well. The extra room has proved to be a high asset for me these last few business days. I could not be happier at this time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from There is a lot to love about this HDD I typically use the 1TB Gtech for my work. However in the UK they have increased in price recently and GTechs new 'rugged' drives feel horrid and cheap. Using these for my current job and here are the pros: Great design and relatively easy to take apart (case is clipped on). Rubber cover feels nice and completely protects it from drops Plastic case it comes in is fantastic and a real bonus, miles better than the cardboard throw away rubbish of Gtech/Lacie. Cons: Internal hard disk is a Seagate Spinpoint M8. A generally well received disk but I dont trust the brand particularly. Disk is 5400RPM, would be nice to have a 7200RPM disk considering its professional sales pitch Because of the above you simply aren't going to hit the advertised speed of 120MB/s. This peaks at around 103MB/s for me. The Gtech drive which uses a HGST travelstar 1tb is the quicker drive by about 15-20MB/s.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast, rugged elegant drive Very pleased with unit. I use with macbook pro for photo & video storage, it also is fast enough to use for editing process. I clocked it on blackmagic design speed test over 100 MB/s read and write. I recommend initialing it with your mac vs. the sony software, ti avoid reading errors. It cones with thunderbolt and usb cables and a nice silicone bumper. Very pleased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Own Two Now, Love Them I started buying these because they seemed like a good value in comparison to the LaCie Ruggeds I had been using, and because I had had a couple LaCie's begin to behave strangely. I've been using both of the Sony's for over a year and have never had a problem. No reliability issues, no mounting/recognition issues. I will probably buy another.
