Sirui W1004 Reviews

Excellent tripod - impressive quality and a great value

I own Sirui tabletop, carbon-fiber travel tripods and a number of tripod ball heads. They are well engineered, the quality and finish are first-rate and they are reliable. The W-1004 is my latest addition and I used it recently to photograph waterfalls and streams with long exposures. Cliche, I know but I like those images. As a bonus, this one is waterproof which is perfect for such shots. It holds my five-pound Nikkor 200-500mm with two-pound D850 with ease. With a high-res sensor camera like the D850 that extra bit of stability that a good tripod provides over handheld with the impressive VR of the lens the shots look visibly better. The fact that one leg can be turned into a monopod helped me in a situation where tripods were not allowed but no restrictions on monopods. I use it in the studio with the equally impressive Sirui K-30x ball head.

The tripod has a bubble level on the attachment platform that allows you to make sure the base of your ball head or whatever you are using is level. When paired with the Sirui K-30x Ball Head, you can ensure the camera stays on plain for panoramic and stitched photos.

Purchased two of these with the water-sealed feature figuring highly for use with my 48 & 72 sliders when in a variety of environments (fresh water) After 2 weeks of daily use, I have only a couple of issues: The center column pieces are held together with a std. threaded rod but the tightening ring at the base of the central column has no grip shaping or proviso for using any sort of wrench so it is difficult to tighten and loosens easily -- until you've tightened so much that reversing the process is difficult! The padded storage bag is excellent with a very nice padded strap, but it could use another pocket for all the bits they give you. The instructions leave more than a little to be desired if you're new to Sirui tripods. 3 small bags of parts, some of which are depicted in the instructions and some of which are not. I'm still not sure I've actually got the heads together correctly! Slight pitting in the finish after 2 weeks out in the snow (no salt exposure) The measurement graduations on the lowest leg section do actually come in handy when leveling up my slider across two of these on uneven ground in low light (they are white text/lines.).

Monopod -- assembly required.

I really like this tripod, however here's the procedure to assemble the full length monopod: 1) remove monopod leg; 2) remove center column hook / tension rod (which holds the center column together); 3) don't lose the center column hook / tension rod; 4) remove the bottom of the center column; 5) remove the head from the center column (if you're going to use it on the leg); 6) assemble the monopod; 6) again, don't lose any of the little bits; 7) Find all of the little bits and reverse everything to reassemble the tripod--steps 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14. Moral of the story: this is a great tripod, but unless you like fussing with all of the little bits, not a great monopod. Buy a monopod if you want a monopod.

Are the feet stainless steel spiked under the rubber feet? Does the tripod come with a ball head and if so, which one? The pictures show the tripod with a ball head included.
Asked by: David
The spikes are separate and have to be screwed in after removing the rubber feet. This version of the tripod doesn't have the head included but the one pictured is the Sirui K-10x. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/822260-REG/Sirui_BSRK10_K_10x_Ball_Head.html

This version of the tripod doesn't come with a head. You'd just be getting the legs. The head that is shown here is the Sirui K-10x. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/822260-REG/Sirui_BSRK10_K_10x_Ball_Head.html

Salt water proof?
Asked by: Matt
It is made of mostly aluminum, so you can put it in salt water without worrying about rust. Although like anything you take into salt water, you should clean it out properly after you expose it to salt water, dirt and sand,

Do you sell replacement shim set for the W-1004?
Asked by: Lucy
Aside from quick release plates, we do not seem to carry replacement parts for Sirui tripods. I'd recommend giving them a call during their operating hours as they should be more than willing to help you get a hold of replacement shims. :) Sirui Tel: (866) 373-0829 Email: [email protected]

what's it mean by "The split center column allows the tripod to reach its minimum height of 5.7"? is there a picture show what it does?
Asked by: Charlie
In the first image you can see on the center column that there is a seam that runs across it. That's where you can screw the bottom of the column off to create a short column so you don't have to raise it if you want to spread the legs wide.
