Vidpro MR-500 overview

  • 1Description

The MR-500 Motorized Follow Focus and Zoom Control DSLR Shoulder Rig from Vidpro features battery-powered lens drive motors and handles with integrated thumb-controlled switches to enable full lens control without having to remove your hands from the grips. The shoulder-mounted rig is built around two pairs of 12" long 15mm rods linked by a riser bracket that offsets your camera 45° for easier viewing of rear LCD screens. Additional rig components include a set of 10" long arms, cushioned hand grips, a shoulder pad, and a height-adjustable camera platform with a removable camera plate. Two rod-mounted lens drives are included, one for focus and one for zoom, as well as a set of three lens gear rings that are suitable for DSLR-type lenses without built-in gears and accommodate most lenses with outer diameters between 70mm and 96mm.

To drive and control the lens motors, the MR-500 features an electric control module that mounts on the rig's 15mm rods and is powered using a single LP-E6-type battery. A battery and charger are included. The module offers variable-speed operation, four follow-focus memory presets, and configuration lens rotation start/stop limits for setting virtual hard stops for lenses that continuously rotate. With switches located on the handles, you are able to seamlessly follow focus or zoom while maintaining a firm grip on both handles for stable and comfortable, shoulder-mounted shooting.

MR-500 Motorized Follow Focus and Zoom Control DSLR Shoulder Rig is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Features and Value Our team has purchased two of these rigs for ENG work with our BlackMagic cinema gear. The rig is of high quality and the electronic motor drive system works very well. It may take several minutes to set up but once complete it operates flawlessly. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Auto Focus & Zoom I was very impressed with this unit. I put it together watching the video and some common sense. Plugged in the battery and wallah it worked flawlessly. Super happy Glad I took the chance to buy it. I do wish It came with a Matte box tho.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product, but a tad under constructed. The product itself functions exactly the way it should, the only problem I have with this is that it is mis-weighted when it is fully put together. When used as a shoulder rig this is fine, but when used mounted on a tripod, which is also part of why I purchased it, the rig is not sturdy enough to support the side weight with out twisting slightly. All in a all a good product for the price, but I wish it was a bit more sturdy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed Wanted a unit for steady hand held video and ability to also adjust zoom and focus was icing in the cake. My received unit had problems: Left Handle Focus cable connector to back Main Controller receptacle would not plug-in without forcing it, parts quality problem; the other three connections fitted perfectly. Also the adjusting knob for the assembly that holds the back Main Controller was stripped or seized such that I had to use channel grip pliers to loosen and tighten it. In addition there were no written instructions, did have an instructional DVD but would not play on regular DVD players, needed find a computer with an acceptable app. Lastly; I, after 4 hours of trying, was not able the adjust the alignment of the camera, motor gears, and lens ring gears such that they would stay aligned and in contact; one or the other (Focus or Zoom) would disengage. Possibly I just was not able to align the system, but I do not think so; I checked and double check that gears were aligned and face to face. Very disappointed, returned to B&H; wonderful CS for these situations at B&H!
